SLK250d
Hi guys, I'm on the verge of buying a 16 plate slk250d with the 9 speed box, euro 6, 50k miles.
Anything I should be worried about?
Also how much better is the 9 tronic compared to the 7 tronic?
Any horror stories?
Or a good car?
Thanks.

First the bad news.
The engine on these is known to have problems with the engine emission control systems and that can turn out to be expensive. I’d do a bit of homework to satisfy yourself.
Saying that, the engine is very torquey in the slk - it really suits the car and you are never left wanting for power. Even the exhaust note sounds fine. It even has a beat like a v8 (seriously!) and doesn’t sound diesely when warm.
There is nothing wrong with the seven speed box, but the nine speed just takes that excellence to a new level. It’s smooth, never caught out in the wrong gear, and makes the flappy paddles redundant. It’s as good a box as I’ve ever had.
Handling is good. It’s as good as I ever needed but I’m sure that there would be Porsche (or BMW) drivers who might find fault.
All in all a cracking car - the reason I got rid of my SLC was that for some reason I just didn’t gel with it and it got little use.

Very interesting.
I'd guessed about addblue etc. Euro 6 has killed most deisels now, reliability wise.
Good write up though.
I'm looking/driving on Saturday and I'll probably go for it.
Cheers Mick

Any thoughts on light grey leather interiors?
I've only ever had black.

Only that in my humble opinion it looks nicest. Avoid wearing jeans due to dye transfer and wipe them down regularly if you do (wear dark jeans).

What did you think of the car?

I'm off to see it tomorrow.
It's silver, I was hoping for black/dark blue, however the memory, of the stress, of keeping my black A7 clean, is weaning me away lol!
Other than euro 6 fears, it doesn't have carplay.
I've read that I can have addblue 'sorted' if it fails.
I'm hoping that a carplay type screen can be retrofitted.
I'll post my experience tomorrow.

To the OP: Google "Mercedes" and "AdBlue"... 😱

Personally, I'd opt for a petrol model instead

Just done that.
Absolutely nothing bad comes up in google search.
Care to be more specific?
Although as my first post states, I'm well aware of adblue problems, with ALL brands of cars.

One last question.
Does the euro 5 car (7 speed) also use adblue?

I have a Euro 4 car - petrol SLK 280 with 3L V6, no adblue to worry about, ULEZ compliant should I ever want to venture inside the M25, plenty of get up and go when wanted, and cheaper fuel than a diesel! Probably cheaper to buy than a 250D as well!

No, Euro 5 didn't need ad blu

Good luck with the viewing and test drive
Does it have a glass roof - makes a notable difference in what is a small cabin?

There are plenty about, so be fussy....

As a general rule, the older 'CDI' cars with EU5 Diesel engines do no have AdBlue, while the 'd' cars with EU6 engine, do have AdBlue. But there are exceptions.

If you don't care about ULEZ than a CDI car would be my recommendation, if ULEZ is an issue then any petrol variant will do.

Brought it home today.
In the end I went for black on black with red trim and belts.
I'm quite impressed to be fair, seems to have plenty of go and is very frugal.
Couple of small things to sort out, but I'm pretty happy with what I paid.
And add a sunny day, I've had the roof down already.
It has some very dubious rubber on the front, so first job will be some PS5s.
Can't find an adblue filler anywhere. Looks like I've been lucky.
Not in the fuel area or the spare wheel area.

Iirc the adblue filler is where the spare wheel should go, if it has one, so you might not have it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If you have the nine speed box, check out the rpm at 70mph. You’ll be amazed. Especially as it has plenty of pull from that speed.
Enjoy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Congratulations on you’re new car!

You should have the AdBlue menu in the instrument cluster (assuming that AsBlue was deleted by a previous owner....).

Dodged a bullet there! :D

It's an SLK250 CDI, not an SLK250d, hence no AdBlue.

Lovely motor, BTW.

Really strange as it's classed a Blueefficiency model!
