Hi all please help.

I have searched for info on the above but I cannot find anything, please direct me or help with the following questions.

1, How much would the headers/sports cats cost £ ?

2, Where can I buy them ?

3, Is the quoted 10% increase in power realistic ?

4, Have other owners done this mod ?

All help appreciated

Thanks

Have you checked the Mbworld forums in the US? You might find more info there.

I am unable to do private message facitity so I will have a look a previous posts by blueserenity777 . All the searching I have done leads me to the US sites, would it be cheaper to source the components from the US ? A recent advert in Mercedes Enthusiast for Kleeman said for all North UK enquiries contact Car Planet so I had a look at their website and they are a Jap importer no mention of Mercedes. I will have a look at SKG.

Thanks for the help.

I have had a look at the SKG link and it is just a link to the Kleeman DK site. I also realised that this is the same company that I emailed for some info and got no reply, Did I also read a post about no customer service from this company on another post ? It would seem that the market for aftermarket Mercedes/Kleeman components does not exist here in the UK! Any one help with performance packages from Carlsson or Brabus for a SLK 55 ?

Responses do seem to be a bit hit and miss from the UK distributor (Mayfield Garage).

I also noticed the distributor for the North mentioned in an advert, but not listed on the Kleemann website.

I think it's fair to say that the market for tuning MB and AMG in the UK is limited in comparison with the US, and as a result there are more suppliers of tuning goodies on the other side of the pond.

Thanks Bobby
Drifting off the subject is that your dog wearing a sheep outfit ? if so does the woofer know where I can get 400 horses out of my 5.5 ?

My dog doesn't need to wear a sheep costume to look ridiculous!! That's the much referred to sheep in wolf's clothing!!

The normally aspirated engine isn't cheap to tune, and there's not a huge amount of specific tuning options for you. You'll find it more cost effective to buy parts in the US though.

Removing precats would be a good start, and is something any comptent exhaust specialist or mechanic should be able to take on. It may help breathing a little, and will make the sound even better!!

On the SLK55 I'd personally be looking at improving the way in which you use your current power rather than increasing it. IMHO a Quaife LSD will have a bigger affect on performance per pound than any other mod on the SLK55.
Quaife Engineering, World renowned manufacturer of the Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing, differential, Quaife gearboxes, gearkits and steering racks, as well as numerous other transmission and upgrade parts for road cars, race and ral

They're site is down at the moment, but the following would be a good place to stop by:
www.fedordezyn.com/

Other tuners like MKB and Renntech are expensive even in the US!!

Forget about buying your headers from the US as they won,t fit, steering column will foul on them, if you find anyone to supply RHD headers for the N.A. M113 V8, a link would be most appreciated.
Do expect to pay £2000ish for them, Kleeman ones I believe are circa £4000 IIRC, if they still manufacture them.

Thanks
I never thought about any difference between LHD and RHD for the headers, so it would seem that the only options are exhaust/cats without fitting a super charger. I once saw a figure of £14,000 for the supercharger, does that sound about right ? has anyone on the forum in the UK done this ?

I though that applies on straigh engines. When it comes to V8 i think thry`re the same.

I got a very interesting reply back from SKG as follows..

Thanks for you enquiry.

The headers kit for the 55 engines doesn’t include (at this stage) any cat., Basicly it comes with de-cat down pipes and would need an ECU upgrade as it otherwise might tricker the engine management light. It would also need small amendment to the header/down pipe at the steering column as they are made for LHD. They are not bold on, down pipe needs to be welded to the existing exhaust.

We are at the moment testing a RHD version of headers and will eventually have a bolt on mid section with sports cats ready (this will be a UK manufactured edition to the Kleemann headers). We have it ready for CLS/E-55 and SL55 so it is just a matter of time when we get the option of developing one for the SLK55. Then we will have a bolt on product where the customer doesn’t need an ECU upgrade – we strongly recommend the ECU upgrade anyway as it makes a big difference in connection with the headers.

Current header kit is: £ 1,495.00 + Vat and fitting, fitting is about £ 480.00 + VAT
ECU upgrade is: £ 895.00 + VAT.
Mid section (from Kleemann headers) with 2 x 200 cell race cats are expected to be £ 1,095.00 + VAT (fitting include if bought with the headers)

These prices sound about right. Its a substantial sum for about 55bhp gain they will give. The guy that has the w210 e55 on youtube tuned using most of that stuff has 400 to 410 bhp. But it shifts; for example his car beats easily an e39 M5 and even the new 420bhp audi rs4. Its a nice tune but again a lot of money.

Ask Grav what he did to his E55 ( w210 ) that Andy K has now ...

I know he put a set of cams in it amongst other things and it went like stink.

Had a little jolly in it and was well impressed.
