If your going to have an SLR-SLK you might as well have a SLR-E if your part of the Saudi Royal Family ;)

Hmmm, indeed.

Looking at those unbelievably crude bonnet cut-outs, this looks like a case of more money than taste.

The E class is much neater, a real Q-car.

Not half. Think of the fun you could have with M5s !!

That bonnet is a summer bonnet for cooling as Saudi temperatures are up to 50 degrees. They claim the SLK is 400kgs lighter than an SLR - typo I think.

A summer bonnet? LOL!!!!!!!!!!...

So it's quick, then..?

Just a technical observation:

Have a look at just how far forward (and high) the SLR engine sits in the SLK's chassis, even compared to the E-Class next to it. The bulk of it's mass is forward of the front wheels and therefore it's likely to be something of a b*tch to drive in anything other than a straight line, with it's poor weight distribution and high COG. And just try to imagine it under hard braking....

Tidy conversion, but I think I'll keep my SLR, thanks.

(Obviously I'm kidding...)

Agreed - the story i heard was that he preferred the size of the SLK for running around town in, SLR being too cumbersome (i only read/repeat this from another forum so feel free to cast doubt as appropriate ;))

The need for a summer bonnet - especially such a gruesome one as that - indicates that the conversion was either not very good (seems unlikely, this guy is going to have some seriously proficient mechanics on hand) or the conversion was simply never properly do-able from an engineering viewpoint in the first place.

Therefore, no matter how good a job it is, in my opinion it will always be a lash up.

Now, the E Class.....

Bingo

I mean, nobody would argue that the VW Golf is arguably a more manoeverable and practical car around town than say........a Lamborghini Murcielago, but if money were no object, would any of us purchase both cars for the sole purpose of transplanting the engine from the Lambo into the Golf..?

It's fun to see the shots of both cars and it's certainly interesting to see how people with too much cash like to spend it, but clearly there are people out there whose intelligence to wealth ratio strongly favours the latter... ;)

I cant believe everybody has missed the biggest mistake on the SLK.

ITS WHITE......!

He`s gonna lose thousands on residuals:rolleyes:

Nothing wrong with white .... move along now ! nothing to see here

Heres another example.

It’s obviously not merely the tasteful aerodynamics kit or the subtle engine work that makes this particular Audi an amazing specimen. Created by German tuning shop and Audi specialist, Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM) for a client in Dubai, this MTM-tuned A8 also happens to be really really (really) shiny. The original paint was completely stripped to the metal (and plastic) using the finest-grained sandpaper this side of a baby’s bonnet. Then, the metal parts were polished to a high gloss, while the plastic parts were layered in a chrome-emulating series of paints and varnishes. Afterward, the 4.2-liter V8 was also tweaked to 450hp, a custom, ride-leveling suspension was installed and a set of really (really) shiny MTM rims were fitted.

Esox

White is regarded as a white elephant in Europe. However, majority of cars in Dubai and middle east are white due to the weather. I just got back from Dubai yesterday. I saw a fantastic SLR ....in white. Took some photos of it and will try and post them.

Is there a Mercedes-Maclaren SLR 320CDi running around Riyadh?
