Hi there,

I have a 58 plate E220 CDi which I have had for 4 months now and I have noticed that first thing in the morning the transmission is 'sloppy' when cold. It feels something like an old elastic band like it is struggling to make a smooth change. When it's warm it is smooth as silk and you hardly notice the changes but so different when cold....

I was wondering if this is the start of something or if it needs an oil change:dk:

Any help would be welcome.

Thanx

Steve

If the transmission oil and filter have never been changed then definitely change it, otherwise, check the fluid level.

Don't mean to sound negative mate but I think its the start of your gearbox failing. Do you hear a scraping sound too?

Doubt it.

As stated get the oil and filter changed, it can make the work of difference.

Had my fluid and filter changed a few weeks ago, symptoms were clunky gearbox when cold with jerky changes.......these were only slight mind, but you could tell the difference when the oil had warmed up. Also wanted the garage to check everything was ok with it.

Once changed with fresh oil and filter, the difference was very noticeable, was also nice when the specialist told me everything was perfect internally.

Only thing i would suggest is get this work done by a specialist auto gearbox company like i did, and pay the extra money.

No need for a gearbox specialist. A good mb specialist will do the job well.
