Slow pull away

i have a slk 200k and frankly the acceleration is crap compared to my old honda crx, once im going its fine though, but acceleration is the fun aint it!

Mine is pretty much the same, so was my C180 so I don't think it is a diesel thing. Must be something in the ECU because lots of people complain about it.

When pulling out at busy roundabouts you have to floor it but once I am going, I'm gone!

It helps to hold the car on the brakes, build the revs with your right foot and let it go like a greyhound out of a trap when you are ready. Obviously you cant do this all the time so no help really!!

Even with your little something ?? - Mine, has a slight delay, about 1sec, then I'm gone, with Orange light flashing at me should I wish.......Most Diesels I've driven are slow, then go like the Proverbial..... :) :)

Ive got a 180 Kompressor and it goes like a rocket from standing start. Floor it and watch the world fly past.

I know people will rubbish me for saying this but ...

I took a Mini cooper through roundabouts etc keeping the car on boost and i was well gone .... And she was trying in the car alone and i had a passenger :)

Ill never got back to natural aspiratrion.

after driving loads of cars ,allways cheaper ! i find that all mercs are slow on accelleration ,and the dude who says look at your speedo get real will you!

Must say I've driven 3 C220 Cdi's now include mine and they all suffer from the mentioned delay.

I have felt vulnerable entering roundabouts a couple of times expecting the thing to shift faster than it does. I wonder if that's why other lesser drivers think us Merc drivers can be arrogant ;)

However I'm still in the wafting stage at the moment so I guess that sooner or later I'm going to floor the thing and just watch that orange triangle blink at me :)

Perhaps when I've replaced my tyres I won't see so much of it on rainy days but the 'idiot light' as I call it comes up all too easily when pulling out left onto roads (presumably due to the sharper corner). Instinctively I back off as I think I'm being unkind to the car.

My back tyres are easily due for replacement though, just need to find some replacement wheels too.

Ian.

Have you ever been in a new E320 CDI??????? ;) ;)

In reply to Dent's - well im sorry fuzzer but it sounds like youve never had a fast car , obviously no one has any ideas.

I personally have driven various makes and models of cars from Vauxhall Chevettes ( nice!) to Jaguar XKR'S. My E320 CDI is by far the quickest car overall. Acceleration, mid-range etc etc. They really are beasts as Brian will testify and from a standing start will whip your head back into the headrest quite easily.
I really don't think Merc's are slow from pullaway at all.

i wouldnt start messing around with your car. The 220 is slow, especially with an autobox. Flooring it spoils the ride. I had one with a manual, and that was only just adequate pulling off.

My CLK230K suffers from this lag, I've always put it down to the box, flooring it helps and when it picks up you know about it. the CLK was a bit of a performance come down from my previous Volvo C70 T5. But at least the back seats can be used now.

I'm about to superchip mine for an added 40BHP to see what a difference it makes....

And yes I've driven plenty of fast and slow cars....

fastest - Supra Twin Turbo (scarey and fast with no cornering)
slowest - Fronterra 2.4 D (slow and I shag&*d the gear box pulling a trailor)

Who are you getting the chip from? I've not found anyone that can software tune the 230k engine with a 40bhp upgrade without having to also change the kompressor pulley!

Mercedesperformance are selling someone else's product, they don't make anything themselves, as far as I know it's run from someone's bedroom. If you notice the kompressor model is about £600 more than the others...this is because they will also change the pulley! :)

If I can find out who's product maybe I can get it cheaper. There was no mention of pulley changes, only re-chipping and the guy did invite to the premises to have the work done. I wouldn't do this if it was run "out of a bedroom" type business.

Anyway I haven't agreed to it yet, so no harm done.

Like I said though, they are probably selling someone else's service there, not neccessarily their own. Nothing wrong with that of course.

I would get exact details, why does a kompressor model cost £600 more than the others, when they all have the same type of engine management...

maybe I should upgrade the celery to a proper P4?
Lol I'm still running a celery 1.8 here and it's fine. I spec'd the system to accept a HT 3Ghz processor when the time came, but just don't see the need to upgrade yet! :)

I don't have any trouble making mine move :cool:I leave most things standing. The only lag I have is between reverse and drive - that's not as quick as a manual - but other than that, the words "a shovel" and "off" spring to mind along with one other
