Hi all I have a 230TE with SLS thinkin bout upgrading the engine to something that has a bit more pull! can the unit be taken off and put on any m103 engine?

Thanx matey's

Hi there,

Not looked at the 2.3 M102 engine with SLS on the 8v models, but if it's driven from the camshaft at the front then it's a different setup to the M103, which has a 'tandem pump' fitted lower down by the power steering.

It's going to be far easier and much better to sell the 230TE and buy a 300TE, too many parts to swap and they're cheap these days :)

Would removing the whole system be easy i wanna undercoat the te anyway the car is really mint and the eingine is a let down

Not really, all the 124 estates (in the UK at least) have self-levelling suspension, it's a great system and works very well. Springs, struts etc are all unique to the SLS setup.

There are other nice 124s out there. If your 230TE is mint, you should get fairly good money for it and so should have a decent budget for a nice 300TE IMHO :)

There's loads of differences between the 230TE and the 3.0 M103, it's just not worth the hassle of swapping it all - would take ages and cost too much.

Ok thanks thats good advice Will, i'll c wat happens might have to do that

One of the many virtues of the 230 is fuel economy.

It may be a bit ponderous at times, although is quite sprightly when pushed in sport mode, but a 300 will cost you far more in fuel.

If you have a nice 230, the rear suspension works correctly, it idles well, and is solid underneath and round the jacking points under the plastic sill covers, I would treat it to a really good service, and keep and look after it.

But them I'm biased!

Hi Tony, the fuel economy is really bad, Ive serviced the car new leads, new plugs, dizzy cap, rotar arm, fuel pump relay, new ovp and had co2 adjusted? any thing else I need to do to make it more fuel efficent also changed autobox filter and oil. the only thing with the autobox it doesnt seem to change gears properly it likes hanging on to lower gears longer? I seem to be gettin better economy out of my S430?

Ouch

I( get an average 30mpg, but I rarely do any town driving, its mostly hour long runs to a mainline train station, or longer runs if I drive to wherever I happen to be working.

I have changed most of the components of the FI system, including the injectors.

How old is the car, and do you have KE-JET FI?

If so is the lambda working properly?

Has it been set up correctly before having the co2 set, presumably by reading from the exhaust?

There is a means to set up the engine by measuring voltages, before tuning by setting via the co2

You've changed the autobox oil and filter, all you can check now is that the vacuum leads to the box are present and sealing well, after that I think there are adjustments you can make, but you need someone wiser than me to advise on that.

Thanks Tony I will check that soon, I dont think it has the lambda sensor but did have it adjusted whilst connected to a emmisions machine!
