Smaller wheels - no problems?

Hi,

I was wondering whether someone could help with confirming an alternate wheel size for me.

I have a W211 estate, avantgarde with 17" alloys, 245/45/17 tyres - I was looking to get another set of wheels for the winter, and from the user manual these seem a legitimate choice: 8Jx16ET36, with 225/55/16 tyres.

Is this going to be ok - I've read some posts about you have to be careful about brake calipers interfering with smaller wheels but thought this was just for the sport model, not avantgarde?

Thanks for your help!

If it lists the wheel / tyre combination for your model variant in the manual then there should be no problem using them. However, if you want to be doubly certain, give Mercedes-Benz UK Customer Assistance a ring on 01908 245000, give them your VIN number and they will confirm the suitability of the fitment you wish to use. They'll even tell you the part number of suitable wheels :thumb:

You will be fine with the wheel size you listed. I changed from 18" (standard) rims on my E280 Sport to 16" Alutec Type B rims without any problems. These were from the Tyremen.co.uk website as part of a winter wheel/tyre package. Clearance between the front calipers and insides of the wheels is tight but this is with the larger sport calipers so you won't have any problems on the Avantgarde.
