Smart car parking legalities

I routinely park my smart perpendicularly.

It's not just easier, but it's a courtesy to other people, as there is more space for other cars - and the wheels are within the lines.

Utterly ridiculous ticket.

I've seen Smarts and G-Wizz parked that way .

As long as the road is wide enough for other traffic to pass , and no obstruction with the footpath , I see no issue .

The only difficulty I would see would be if small cars parked in the gaps between other vehicles , leaving them no space to manoeuvre out , or for vehicles with rear doors to be able to open them / access the load area .

If two Smarts can share a single parking space , then good for them , hopefully the council wouldnt try to make both pay , thus doubling their revenue .

Could be a safety issue at night, or in conditions of reduced visibility, when perhaps driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other road users could be considered? No lights or reflectors visible?

On the continent its common to park this way rather than parallel to the kerb,
no major incidents have been caused by this :)

This is cited as the legal objection though only applicable in darkness.
Previously it was a traffic warden's ability to read the tax disc from the pavement (if reversed into space).

The other day i picked a Fine up (£35) for having my wheels less than 1cm over the line!

Some parking wardens are just a jobs worth.

Was the bay the correct size?

Because if there were they would have made them park only the other way (parallel).
