Possibly over fuelling for some reason such as dodgy MAF. You could maybe try unplugging it and see if the smell goes away. Performance will be rubbish but its just a diagnostic check.
I had a similar issue on my 1997 SLK and hunted for a non existent leak for ages before replacing the MAF solved the problem

That car has not got a MAF as such. 
Have a closer look around the fuel filter and see if you can pinpoint it to front or rear of the car. The fuel pipes on these 107's often get leaky due to age. Not much fuel has to leak to get quite a smell.
