Smelly a/c

Daughter’s car had a similar issue and it turned out to be the air-con drainpipe had broken free!!
Carpets right under and deep into the footwell were damp (not soaked). Garage re-fitted the pipe and all fine.
Agree with earlier posts – use air conditioning all the time.

There is a class action against MB in the US for smelly aircon. Doesn't unfortunately help us on this side of the world. I had the problem as well and had it professionally cleaned.

If you can stand the smell, tea-tree or other antibacterial essential oils onto cotton face-pad laid onto air filter, then run A/c for considerable while so it internally circulates.

strange one this. On the trip to Cornwall yesterday I used the screen jets to cleat some bird crap. Immediately noticed smelly odours. I had recently filled with neat water as no screen wash handy.
Have now emptied the reservoir and filled with screen wash. Hope that this clears the problem. Why it should smell on startup eludes me.

Update.
Smell gone!
So it was not the A/C after all, just some rancid water, but why it started on when the car was started is a mystery. The new filter and smell bomb a bonus.
