When Idiling at a t junction I noticed ALOT of smoke coming from the exhaust, when I moved the accelerate away I nearly engulfed the van behind me... Although when I got going it wasn't really that bad.

Later on I've driven to my gig tonight and noticed a similar albeit less extreme version of the previous problem... Generally a bit of smoke when accelerating (more than you'd expect from a 220 cdi) and the engine temp according to the readout is around 50... Which seems a little low to me

My first thought is that the thermostat is cattletrucked and is resulting in plumes of the grey stuff.

Anyone agree or have any other ideas?

Fit a new thermostat. Not that expensive for the part, around £35 IIRC.

For the temperature, anywhere between 80-90 is fine.
