Front spring snapped tonight on motorway, that bang was a surprise. I see people recommend MB springs but looking at shock all though not leaking i'm wondering if i should just buy complete strut as not sure if bearing mount at top is a bit noisey when reversing. Anyone bought the complete unit from MB or a complete unit from elsewhere as i can't seem to find complete units listed, is there a mercedes euro parts supplier that people use. Thanks for ant info.

The strut bearing is not part of the strut assy.
Replace the spring and the bearing if you are concerned.
Buy the spring from MB after you confirm the paint marks (colour and number) to get the right one.
Part souces are MB; Euro car parts; Carparts4less;bestpartstore or ebay.

Thanks i thought bearing was part of strut, maybe just get spring this time to see how the whole thing is built, just need to get ball joint splitter now to get upp arm off.

Jemmy and a skelp usually works.

I could be wrong but I think they come sperate. MB dealer told me the springs have colour coded paint sploges on them and you need different springs depending on engine and options fitted. MB springs weren't that much more than the EPC ones so I went the proper MB ones.

What colour are the paint markings . ?

If it's a post facelift W211 then you don't need to split the top ball joint. Undo the three bolts and you can detatch the ball joint from the upper arm.

The whole strut comes off without even touching the upper arm ball joint..

I have tried after market springs, they may be cheaper than MB but you may need to fit a pair to get the ride height the same on both sides. In any event you should always fit springs in pairs. My tip would be to use the MB springs, your dealer will be able to supply them from the details on the cars data card. It works on a points system based on the original spec of the car in terms of the options it left the factory with.

Also is this some sort

Really thought i seen video where you had to disconnect it to push upper arm up out the way to get it out. Thanks will have a look again tomorrow.

Yeah will phone MB Newbridge tomorrow, mine have two yellow then one green strip.

If you're going to get them from MB they'll want the VIN. From that they can find exactly which options are fitted and therefore the correct spring.
