A slightly weird question... which I cannot find the answer to on TechNet...

Which version of SNMP do various version of windows support? (specifically Windows 2000 Server)

I know windows 2003 uses SNMPv2, but support v1 for backwards compatibility.

That said, I can't find info on other versions of the os...

Ideas?

Unfortunately MS still only ship SNMPv2c agents with Vista / 2008 / 2008R2. I can only assume they believe that servers would only be monitored locally via trusted networks (or ones where encryption is not required and access lists can be used).

Third-party software can be used to enable SNMPv3 support, but I don't know whether this just does the MD5 authentication, or supports the encryption as well.

Thanks,

any idea what version W2k server, Nt4 and XP support? I'm assuming they support v1, which would mean no password...

I read this as W2k and later use v2, NT had v1.
