Pay is less
Cost of living is less
They all drive like homicidal maniacs
The scenery is stunning
You get Earthquakes.

I've heard nothing but positive thing from friends and relatives who have lived there.

Lots of sheep there.

Aunt Sally said Worzel liked it ;)

Im a typical of alot of people asset rich (own house) but cash poor, slaving my guts off to pay for it. Just wondering realistically what you get house and business wise for your cash out there ?

What do the rellies say?

Also, here will be NZ equivalents of Rightmove and Zoopla to interrogate.

My wife has family in Napier , and a friend of mine went out a couple of years ago , spent 6 months looking around and sussing out business , came back, sold up and emigrated. On the plus side , weather, environment etc, generally better than U.K. Property is much cheaper , but wages are lower. If you stay there long term , but then decide to move back , you will find it difficult , in general , to buy back in to the U.K. property market.

The one place on earth I would swap the UK for permanently.

the place is gorgeous, the people real friendly, the food good, the wine even better.

Check out property prices as you have missed the property boom I think.

South Island for me!

South Island is very nice, but as mentioned above you need to focus clearly on how you will provide adequate income. We are a low wage economy & it can be a cruel trap.
Your children will do very well at our schools, not much bullying, better class of education, you know, like Britain used to be. But we are having an ever increasing problem like that, that has eventually led to the riots in GB

NZL was set up to be a "better Britain", but of late we have strayed & now this is considered to be a bad thought, that is why I have the avatar I do. I honestly believe NZL should be modelled on a "better Britain", I am scorned whenever I mention it, Grrrrrr.

Australia is seen by many Kiwi's as a more positive experience, incomes are 30% ++ higher, in my industry they are 100% higher, and it is only a couple of hours away by plane, if ever you want to pop over for a ski or to see some decent scenery NZL is close by. House prices are higher in Australia and because of this you may not realise the vast increase in wages Australia offers over NZL until you trade down after the children have left home. I often work in Australia, but have a house in NZL, best of both worlds.

By the time you reach the end of your working life you would have been better off in Australia by far, breaks my heart to have to say it but I believe it to be true.

I am from Wellington at the bottom of the North Island.
Great place to grow up and bring up kids though the cost of living has really increased in the last few years. Also the NZD is very strong at the moment.

Good schooling is free and the medical care is very very good.
Job wise the pay just does not cut it, but its all relative. Usually better to start a business than to work.

Cheers WDB124066 and E55, Bit of a funny spot really as I cant talk to the relatives in NZ at this stage (basically me and the missus just decided on the off to look into it) and if anyone else in the family found out we was even thinking about it there would be an awful scene !

Anyway I am 35, own my own business (non specialised retail) which is worth bugger all sale wise but I own 90% of my house and I could probably liquidise about 500k sterling so probably about a million in NZ$ .

Although looking at the entry requirements looks quite tough !

You really are thinking about it :(

Bring a million and you'll be fine......:)

You really are thinking about it :(

Ive been thinking about it for ages really BUT it probably wont ever happen just because of the missus !

But I tell you this Dashie, if she spent just one week doing our jobs in the area we work in she would be straight on the plane

Anyway I actually live quite a frugal life really, dont drink or anything all my money goes on the upkeep of my house and business, my cars (of which im a bit bored of really, been there, done that) and my kids (expensive!)

So id be happy with a comparitively low wage, as id own the house outright, if I could buy a ready made business (say a corner shop or something) that gives a steady return id be happy. I dont even really need to worry about the kids and the employment opportunities for them as they are currently 4 and 1 1/2 but they both have reasonable trust funds from the grandparents when they hit 21 (even though me and my sister can go stuff but he ho !)

By the way whats the petrol prices like WDB124066 out there ?

$2.15/l

What type of lifestyle are you looking for, Lots of people or back country town with lots of farmers....

Hell no,take him with you :D

well im going to have to try and get the people I sell the business to take him on otherwise I will have to pay him off :(

WDB124066, Suburban would be better but not too inner city and definately not proper sheep country :)

Knowing my missus though we would have to buy a new build as she definately wouldnt like one of those traditional NZ non brick Bungalow thingies

I want to emigrate as well, but the missus is very stubborn about staying in this country.

Her best friend is moving to Canada in a couple of years, so hopefully she might get a bit jealous and want to move.

Here's hoping....
