this has got to be the weekend from hell!
I took friday off so that i could take mrs B and her mum down to london to do some visiting and see the sights.
On the way my mum in law wanted to go down to brum to visit the large templ on soho road. no problem i thought. it would only add 2 hours onto the journey. i was in no rush -*i had a day off for this reason.

anyways, we are right outside the temple oh soho road, sitting at the lights - which have been red for between 5 to 10 seconds - when i feel a thump and get thrown forward.
it must be noted at this point that i always sit at traffic lights with my foot on the brake pedal. also, i did an advanced driving course through work and the instructor told us to leave our running lights on during the day to be visible so these were also on.

i got out and had a look. she had hit the rear corner on the drivers side with the front passenger corner of her car! she says she was trying to avoid someone on the other side of the road! but, at the point she hit me she was on the other side of the road herself! i did the usual bit of asking her to pull in round the corner off the main road.
while we were exchanging insurance details she told me she was in a courtesy car because she hit someone else earlier on this week! arrrrrgh!

she said "i dont know what i am going to do now"

i was a little bit annoyed and said "maybe you should get a bus pass!"

all in all, i'm not too bothered about the damage, as horrible as it is. the insurance company are sorting that already.

what i am concerned about is my neck and back.

about 30 minutes later my neck went stiff and on the way down to west london my back started aching. i went to casualty plus in brentford yesterday and £60 later i was told i have whiplash and given some drugs and told to rest.

about 3pm yesterday, feeling sick and having a pounding headache with my neck and back killing me i went to bed. slept til 2.30am! i woke up, took my medicine and went back to bed.

man, i feel horrible. my whole weekend has been ruined, i cant eat, my neck and back are killing me. i feel like puking constantly.

what do i do? i dont know if i can even face driving back to sheff this afternoon, even go to work 2moro.

has anyone ever had this whiplash thing?

i used to think it was a made up ilness but i can categorically say its damn real ad damn sore!

regards

KJ

NO WIN NO FEEits there for the genuine cases not the dossers who make a living claiming

The best thing would be to get a Doctor to corroborate that you are suffering more than just kneck ache then you should be able to persue this without a fight.
If you can't drive you could always hire a driver to drive you home and recover that expanse from the other parties insurance.

I'm going to have to try and get back up north so that i can go to the Leeds BUPA hospital 2moro.

Hopefully a consultant there will be able to correctly check me out there.

i'm curious about this no win no fee thing.

I'm with Norwich Union.

does anyone know if they can sort this out or do i have to go elsewhere?

anyone got any advice?

regards,

KJ

there are a few places in sheffield who do this. I know of one that could help. PM me for his details.

Can you get somone else to drive you back?

Alternatively could you take the train back to Sheffield? Remember to keep all your receipts as your 'out of pocket expenses' for any claim you're likely to make.

Although it depends on your cover with you insurance company if you've got legal protection then that should cover all of this stuff.

I am always very suspicious of these 'No win, no fee' parasites :) :) They are not a charity, they are NOT there to offer free advice and I would never recommend them. although they 'might' possibly give you some good advice about symptoms!!

Do you have any legal cover, or perhaps a family solicitor? (They would know who in your area would be best to deal with your case) I would first off see a doctor\consultant, then I would seek professional, legal advice from a specialist company.

If your head restraint was properly adjusted, then hopefully you are not too badly hurt, it could even be shock!!! I am not a doctor and am certainly NOT trying to give out a diagnosis. Whiplash can be very unpleasant, but to get it, you must first have whiplash... and that is what modern headrestraints are there to prevent?

Hopefully you are not too badly hurt and perhaps you will soon be fully recovered.

John

Sorry to hear of this incident - glad no-one was seriously injured .

As others have said , if you have legal cover on your insurance , this should take care of things .

You will need a doctor's report ASAP to corroborate claim , even a statement from the doc who examined you in casualty would help , but a 'proper' examination is usually required by insurance .

Was it only you who got whiplash , or were any of your passengers similarly affected ? You insurance would probably pay (then pass on the charges to the other party's insurance) to get everyone in your car checked out 'as a precautionary measure' .

Mrs B felt sore at the time but now she is ok.

Thankfully.

She is going to drive us up but she has never driven that distance on the Mway before.

We have to go from West London to Brum then onto Sheffield!

Lucky her!

Thanks for all your concern.

I spoke to the Ins Company and they said their legal team would call me 2moro and sort everything out hopefully!

regards,

KJ

Feel for you mate at least she stopped and you got her details.Hope you get well soon:D

Righty!

We managed to get back up to Sheffield at about 1am this morning!

I called BUPA and they can't see me til wednesday!

Called the doctor.

Can't see me til wednesday am!

My back is sore all over and i've got a painful pain somewhere private as well as a constant head and neckache.

Something must have got squeezed down below coz its been hurting me since the crash.

I'm talking about constant pain here - only the guys will understand what im dealing with here!

I struggled to sit in the car while my good wife (who took an unpaid day off work) drove us to the insurers bodyshop.

I'm getting sharp pains in my belly, where the seatbelt was.

How long should these last?

i could take the painkillers the A&E doctor gave me but they just make me feel sick and i like my food! ;)

"Drive Assist" have called me to sort out the courtesy car because i couldnt bear to sit in a corsa for a week, bearing in mind its half the size of the SAAB!

Has anyone ever dealt with these people before?

They said that since i was sitting at the lights, brakes covered, while people were crossing the road in front of me on a green man when i was hit that the courtesy car wont cost me a thing.

I just wish we hadn't been hit.

the whole weekend was ruined.

We had planned to go into Central London on saturday to show the mum-in-law some of the sights as she hasn't been there for about 20 years. What a waste of a weekend. You can't put a value on that.

Anyway, thats my rant for the day.

I'm going to try find some ice for the crown jewels.

regards,

KJ

Ive had to use Drive Assist in the past, the experience was painless, they picked up my car dropped of the hire car and brought it back. All they wanted from me was one signature! I'd use them again because you get nicer cars! Usually like for like!

I had a phone call from them.

they offered me a vectra 1.8.

i said have you not got anything the same as my saab - full leather, dual climate, diesel?

they said that they are dropping off either a c or e class in the morning.

wont be able to drive it til wednesday when i go to hospital but i cant wait!

going for some more ice . . .

Sounds like you are in a good deal of pain.
I am surprised that your surgery wouldn't make an appointment for you that day as a matter of urgency. Perhaps if you stressed the pain you were in that they might squeeze you in.
Alternatively, go and sit in A&E until you are seen. Personally I can't stand being in A&E and will avoid at all costs but it sounds like you may have something serious so you should be checked ASAP.
As for monetary compensation that is secondary to your health. Get seen to as soon as you can.
Hope it all turns out to be nothing serious but better safe than sorry.
Mac.

unfortunately i dont think there is something like casualty plus in sheffield.

i cant stand waiting in a&e.

if anyone knows of a "pay and be seen in 15 minutes and get treated for 3 hours" instead of a&e which is "sit for 3 hours then get treated for 15 minutes" then please advise.

I really must commend the service i got at Casualty Plus in brentford.

£45, a 15 minute wait in a nice lounge.
Then another £15 for a test and some drugs and aobut 3 hours of being looked at on and off.

Well worth £60

I'm no Doctor and not sure about this but it sounds like you might have a trapped nerve in your back, as I know from experience this can really hurt your groin area.
You really ought to get seen at A&E just for peice of mind and for corroboration.

You were not initially thrown forward, you were pushed back into your seat and your braking threw you forward :)

Same thing happened to me, I remember being thrown forward in my seat but that is due to deceleration and braking, not acceleration :)

I went to see an orthapaedic consultant today.

He said that I have indeed got whiplash but only time will tell how severe it is.

He told me that there are 3 recovery periods:

1: 6 to 8 weeks

2: 18months to 2 years

3: Long term recovery or none at all.

He referred me to the Physio which i'm happy with.

Told me to take cocodamol/ibuprofen even suggested diazepam!

Sheesh!

Im sitting here drugged up on the nasty sick inducing painkillers for now!

On a happier(?) note Drive assist dropped off a new e220 cdi avantagde yesterday.

I have decided to save up a little bit more and buy a new shape one now, 52 or 03 plate are now about 14/15k.

Just one question i have though:

In the Saab there is an aux 3.5mm jack for an mp3 player to plug into.

Is there such a jack in the avantgarde?

Finally, I got a call from the INsurance company of the lass that hit me.

She has admitted liability which makes everything run smoothly.

I dont know if I'm going to want to give back the Merc though!

Its a lot more refined than the Saab.

A lot smoother.

Does anyone know what the "c/s" button really does?

regards,

KJ

Sorry to hear you're still not feeling too well, hopefully this is temporory.

Tell the insurance company you are not cohesive enough to think about sorting things out and that you need more time to sort things out. The fact that you WILL be persuing a personal injury claim and for any other out of pocket expances, such as loss of earnings might encourage them to give you more time to think, whilst keeping the E class.

Make sure you put it in writing to them that you are not well.

The C/S switch starts the car in second for snow conditions.
