This is a copy of an E-mail I received after a telephone conversation.
The gist of the conversation was I bought a points holiday about 10 years ago. The company I got it from then went bust, but a company they used honoured the weeks we had so we still had some very good holidays.
and according to this lot, because there is no property involved I am entitled to a refund, and they have been appointed to deal with it.
The first thing that has got me a bit concerned is that it is in Tenerife and I would have to go there to sort it out.
The second is I have to give them £255 up front although they tell me they will be providing me up to one week's free accommodation and the £255 will be refunded.
The third is why would I have to go to Tenerife when they have offices in Manchester?
The Forth, if I am entitled to this refund why can't I sort it out my self, they said they were the only people who could do it.
I declined their offer when they called back again and I thought that would be the last of it, but then last night I received a call from some Solicitors in Gibraltar checking that I had in fact declined the refund, so I explained my concerns, as I didn't want to pay out £255 and give up a weeks holiday just to go to Tenerife and have another company try to sell me time share or some other package, they assured my that they were just Solicitors and didn't have any products to sell, so I have asked them to send me more information as I am not really convinced that they are what they say they are.

Have any of you heard of this before or had experience of it? The total sum would be around £2800 less their 10% so I am tempted to go, but there again could it be a scam? or just a way to get me there to try and preasure me into buying something?

One last thing that has me a bit confused is how they got my details:confused:

    Definitely looks dodgy:

I've removed part of the phone number and the email address.

The website also includes a pet hat of mine, a UK phone number incorrectly spaced / displayed. A Manchester phone number should read 0161 xxx xxxx

"web site designed by blah at homestead"... Would you trust a "solicitor" that designs their web site using free online page builder tools?

Although it's already been confirmed as a scam and a load of bull, look at some of the 'errors' on their website.

    Eg Barnet - 'Barnett'

0161 xxxxx is presented as 01616 xxxxx

Stuff that anyone from the UK would easily know and notice.

Very thin looking website and registration of the domain.

    Just forget about it :)

Well I told my wife that my thoughts were correct and it is a scam.

Her response.............Does that mean we won't be going to Tenerife for our holidays this year then

@ A-AvantGarde.. How do you get that list? It would be very useful to be able to just check sites right at the start :thumb:

It's something called a WHOIS lookup, you can get quite a bit of information from them. Try this one Whois Lookup - Domain Names Search, Registration, & Availability | Whois.net

The domain registrars are not centralised for all the various suffixes currently in use so you may need to look for other sites depending upon the domain you're checking, although the one posted above does all the main ones.

Type Whois lookup into Google for other sites that do the same.

One which has never failed me (yet) is robtex robtex Seems to work for any TLD I've tried!

The site is a little unintuitive, but it does wonders! Type a url at the top and click on "Lucky" (don't hit enter, don't click on search, don't pass go, don't collect £200)

Yes, that looks quite useful - will keep that one in mind for future use. As you say it's not terribly intuitive!

A lot of the internet tools sites are like this...

    Sorry for the hijack :p

Robtex is what I've been using for about a year now at work; it's a free tool and a great addition to any vulnerability scan... (or pen test as a good starting point)...

I keep expecting them to become a subscription service, but it seems like all those adverts do pay their share!

Incentive Leisure Group in the dock for alleged fraud - Investigations

    'Kevin & Paula said:
We have had an attempt to draw us into this scam with Offshore Solutions. WE were contacted by Joanne Woods who said our file had been given to her by Debbie. Joanne said this is our last chance to reclaim 90% of our monies we lost 4 years ago when we were drawn into a scam with a company called Design Vacation in Gran Canaria when we lost £8000. We were told tonight to give our credit card no over & would then be debited the £250 admin fee needed to retrieve paperwork etc. We were told we would have accomodation in spain so we could sign the paperwork. When I told Joanne that I don't give my credit card details over the phone, she was extremely rude. I asked for her phone no so I could phone her back after having a think, she said if I didn't do it now, i would have lost my chance. Joanne was screaming at down the phone in the end, without letting me get a word in.!
I really do hope others are not drawn into this scam. If the deals that good send me a cheque minus the £250 sorted!
