Interesting move. I simply can't wholeheartedly endorse this though.

On one side, drink driving legislation is procedure-heavy, and the potential for loopholes to emerge at every stage of the process is massive. The option of a blood sample can, sometimes, lead to someone "getting off" because of the delay in calling a doctor, but then it is only applicable in a narrow band of cases.

The problems arise because of "health problems" cited by the suspect, and blood sample being offered inappropriately.

I would be more in favour of regular requalification and better training for officers to prevent the loopholes emerging in the first place.

They are scrapping them for cases that are slightly over the limit. If you were well over the legal limit you could never opt for a blood sample anyway.
