W219 320 CDI (2009, facelift version)
Hi all,

Just an update now that I have actually collected the car (2009 CLS 320 CDI).

I'm loving a lot of the toys on there, as blokes do, but have to keep remionding myself that I can't throw it into corners like I did with the old 3 series coupe  A few disappointments though, I must say, which hopefully you guys can help me overcome.

Firstly, I was very surprised to find that it did not come with an anti-dazzle mirror :( I had just assumed that this would be standard on a car like this, considering that they were standard on even entry-level BMWs 14 years ago! Obviously, with hindsight, I should have noticed the little 'flicking' switch...! Is there a chance of retrofitting these?

Also, some of the lights look way too dim and so I've ordered both Nightbreakers and Philips X-Treme for headlights and some white sidelights. Have also contacted KillerHertz for some advice on LEDs for licence plate, but what about the boot light - anyone find any suitable bulbs that actually provides some light in the boot which travels more than 5 cm from the lens??

I'm actually quite gutted about the lights because the original ad showed it as having xenons and I made the fatal error of 'assuming' rather than checking :o Sure it was done in good faith by the seller, and I've sent him a message pointing out the inaccuracy and waiting to hear back, but not holding out much hope.

As well as the anti-dazzle mirror (if possible) I'm also considering the multi-media interface as a retrofit and have been in touch with Comand Online who have been very helpful :thumb:

One final question - has anyone fitted interior LEDs with a cream interior? I like interiors with white light as it makes things easier to see, but have only ever had or seen these with dark interiors and am wondering if it's better to stick with the yellowish light.

Now, lets wait and see if the guy calls me back about the xenons...

Enjoy the car, I got mine in Nov and loving it.

Too late now, but did you not consider buy the Grand Edition, which has all of the options you mention?

I'm glad you're enjoying yours :)

I did consider the Grand Edition but it was a question of finding one with the right colour (Black), low mileage etc. and I wanted a facelift version too. Of course, there was something called a budget, too :(

I'm sure it will grow on me in due course...I got a good deal overall, I think, so can't complain too much - 45k on the clock, for an 09 plate with the major service done a few months ago (inc. gearbox oil change), new tyres, unmarked alloys, memory/comfort pack, all for less than 14k.

Just the Xenons bit which is a right bummer

Would of thought it has auto dimming mirror for the 320. Does the rear view mirror auto dim?

Mine has auto dim mirrors interior and wing mirrors, I thought they all did, I thought xenons were standard too :dk:

Dimming mirrors weren't standard on the Grand Edition!

As i've said previously, it was a bit of a smoke and mirrors model. It had a few big ticket extras, eg xenons and COMAND, but still lacked the ones that most people would add to the standard model, eg parktronic and dimming mirrors. MB weren't going to give away guaranteed ticks on the options list but equally there are a lot out there that are missing them, probably mostly lease or company cars where the spec was fixed.

Dimming mirrors were only ever standard on the 500 and AMGs, they were £250 for everyone else.

As Reefergeezer said, you do expect at least a dimming interior mirror to be standard on anything vaguely premium built in the last 10-15 years, along with auto lights and wipers, but remember being amazed to find out Mercedes think paying extra on a £50k car is acceptable when I was looking.

Yes, I guess it is all about getting the tick in the option boxes, but dimming mirrors are such a basic feature, and safety-related, so you would think they would be included in the standard spec! Does anybody know if a retrofit is possible?

Thanks.
