Good advice ....... I'm still waiting for some kind soul to advise whether the CL600 brakes are the same size as the '55 ones or smaller, as there are plenty of wheels out there but I don't know if they will clear the calipers. That really widens the choice.

If I can't find out, I'll have to get a set of Merc wheels, but don't really want tatty ones as I'd like to get new tyres on quite soon.
