So someone is trying to make an easy 6kish on an AMG Shooting Brake

Looking for next one
There was a gorgeous Red CLS Shooting Brake for sale on here a few weeks ago, it eventually sold at 16k ish I believe, I was very glad for the seller as I read he had issues with bogus buyers previously etc, I remember the motor clearly as it was a very unusual colour combination for the AMG Shooting Brake (Red with Ivory interior)

I was very surprised to see the SAME car back on Autotrader today for 6kish more with a new set of wheels... literally just a couple of weeks after reported sale.....and with a very different description of the car, I also seem to remember the car having more owners in the original sellers advert.

There's a lot of lies in that ad... I'll let Autotrader know; whether they do anything about it is up to them.

I hope he didn't spend too much on the wheels; at that asking price, he'll be waiting a long time to get his money back. The car was up for £18K, £2k lower than similar others on Autotrader, and I didn't get a sniff of an enquiry...

You sent the bits to DVLA off after sale?
It actually looks like he's got multiple cars on there tbh - same style of listing all within 1 mile on Ives.

The alloys are a big improvement on the ones it sold with, but at £1500 more inc tyres the car is still overpriced.

*Always fuelled with premium unleaded and comes with a comprehensive history file, including all receipts from current ownership*

This is the worrying bit - is he trying to pass the car off as from the original sellers ownership?

I much preferred the wheels I had on it; that's why I put them on. They were the same size as the staggered 19 inch AMG wheels the car came out of the factory on, so unless the wheels now on it are non-standard sizes, tyres would not have been needed.

I think it's way overpriced. He's asking what I paid a dealer for it two years ago.

I sold it three weeks ago, so the 'current owner' will have a receipt only for the new wheels. There are now eight previous owners - actually only seven, because I owned it twice - not the four that the ad claims.

All he's left out is the bit about it being owned by a vicar who only used it to go to church on Sundays...

I am unsure of his game - if you have sent the bits to DVLA how is he passing his ownership as yours to potential buyers?

Also because people who want the cars are in short supply, I doubt he's getting a naive buyer.

He did the change of ownership online on the spot, and I've had the acknowledgement of new owner slip from the DVLA, and the cheque for the tax refund, but it occurs to me that if he is in fact a small-time dealer on the side, he won't have a V5 in his name.

Fair point - he defo has other cars on Autotrader and I would say is potentially flipping and avoiding tax and legal reponsibilities.

Hate these types.

Also the fact he's trying to cream more cash by selling the reg plate.

The plate isn't worth much, though; I wouldn't pay a penny for it. The previous owner to me the first time was one Georgi Georgievich Georgiev, and I bet he was the only buyer the DVLA could find...

Good luck to him, hope he earns a tidy profit.
Bad cess to him; I hope he doesn't. He'll need a real mug at that price...

On the other hand, his was the first enquiry after three weeks, and I've sold the car, which was the object of the exercise in the first place.

I've notified Autotrader that the ad description isn't accurate, so it may have to be either withdrawn or amended.

By lying to buyers and by commiting a crime?
Caveat emptor. If he can find someone that stupid good luck to him. I would not care if it had been my car. If I sold it for a price i was happy with, I really could not care less what happens to it after that.

What am I missing?
It's more a question of what the car's missing...

"....meticulously maintained as part of a private collection." LIE
.
"Designo Hyacinth Red Metallic.." LIE

"...always garaged (heated), and kept on a trickle charger." ALL LIES

"AMG forged staggered alloys..." LIE

"Blind Spot Assist, Lane Departure Warning & Traffic Sign Recognition..." ALL LIES

"Keyless Go & Keyless Entry" LIE

"
Next-gen ILS Xenon headlights with LED high beam" LIE

Four owners LIE

I'm not fussed about the car, but I very actively dislike lying small-time dealers masquerading as private sellers, and if I can put a spoke in his wheel, I will.

Something’s going on with the advert: the description and photos have been removed

But any fool can ask any foolish price, it doesn’t mean that they’ll get it.

Check out the two year old adverts for vehicles on AT that are still nowhere near finding an owner. Like this “investment” advert that has been running since November 2022
