So someone is trying to make an easy 6kish on an AMG Shooting Brake

It's up for way too much money, obviously had paint and a boring colour combo (to me).....nope, no idea why it hasn't sold!:D

Something’s going on with the advert: the description and photos have been removed.

That may have been me; if so, good. I sent the seller a message last night: " There are a lot of lies in that ad. I'm going to notify Autotrader, though whether they'll do anything about it I don't know". All he needs to do is correct the information...

As for that R129, Metallic Doom Beige... What's not to like?

The price?

Who knows? It may have sold, or it may just not be “as described”

I'd have thought that if it had sold, the ad would have been deleted. :dk:

Some just don’t get around to cancelling an ad, but that would only account for a few months, not years.

This is just one reason why all of my cars since the age of approx 24/25 have been from main dealers. Yes, it's not fail-safe buying from a main dealer, but the law is on your side and the main dealer is not going to disappear overnight.

Having said the above, The last 20 years or so, I've olnly sold my cars to a main dealer as p/x and more recently ie 10 years ubuymecar likes as I don't want fools knocking on my door weeks/months later and possibly saying something vdry, very stupid and wanting me to fix it.

I almost always sell my cars privately, but my ads are honest, and I've never had anybody come back to me to complain.

Stop Press: The seller replied, claiming the car sold for the full asking price. Could be true, but I doubt it...

There are website/apps that show when the v5 changed hands, so if it's sold it'll show in the next few working days

if the car's been sold to a private owner,

it'll show on DVLA as being taxed from the day that it was bought.

Is this the car?

Mine are beyound "honest, or were when I sold them. However, the crap phone calls i got and clowns knowcking me down over the phone for a one owner v6, 6 year old car just because i mentioned the ding and slight scuffs to the whhels etc was hurting my head. But when stopped me from selling to buyers along with thestories I heard about people knocking on the door etc ie chancers was a clown rang me about 7-30 in the moring as i returned to the bedroom from haivng a shower ie getting ready for work - he was kncoks hundreds off for every scuff and mark i meanitoned on a car that i had already advertsied at a very, very good price for a 1 owner from new and 1 very careful driver and FSH by main dealer - i put the phone down

I 3/4 cars I've sold privately - all sold to the first that came to view - 2 actually rang back a week later saying they were "very pleased with the car.."

When selling our daughters year old Ka's - a family were really interested as the car was the colour they wanted and they questioned the very low miles sub 2k as our daughter at the time worked in the city and traveled to work via tube/etc - i came home during luch just for them and as they got in the car, and got out no test drive etc - they said the car was like "brand-new... but too small." I thought you.......

Selling a car to iweilltakeyourcar etc etc, no ifs, no buts, you get your money and headaches before that or any chance of it afterwards as car'/s sold honestly.

If I sell something and then it’s subsequently sold on for a higher (or lesser) price, I don’t give a sh1t.

If, however, someone profits from misdescribing what they bought from me that’s dishonest and not acceptable.

I didn't mean to suggest anything else; I put it badly, sorry.

I don't mind hopeful tossers sending me texts with derisory offers - it gives me an opportunity to take the piss out of them... I tend not to answer calls from numbers I don't know, though, so usually first contact is by text or email; if it's a serious buyer, he/she will text me if I don't answer the call.

It seems I've been had.
Could explain the dynamic seats not working.

Have you bought the car that is the subject of this thread? If so, you have indeed been had, on far more than the lack of dynamic seats...

Let me know if you want further details.

Bad cess to him; I hope he doesn't. He'll need a real mug at that price...

On the other hand, his was the first enquiry after three weeks, and I've sold the car, which was the object of the exercise in the first place.

I've notified Autotrader that the ad description isn't accurate, so it may have to be either withdrawn or amended.
I don't suppose you've a copy of the original add you flagged to Autotrader do you?

:( yep irritatingly I passed on it when you had it up for sale as I wanted one that hadn't been modified (interior changed). I'm going to see him again next week so will see what he says, but I suspect it's a case of court action. He span a tale of it being someone he worked with at Heathrow, who had owned it twice. Also some guff around the plate

Text me your email address on 07753 310995 and I'll give you further details. The good news is that as the seller, who is a small-time dealer masquerading as a private seller, has deliberately mis-described the car, he is legally liable anyway. I can give evidence of the lies in his ad, and I do have the text of my ad on Autotrader in support. He does work at Heathrow, as did I, but we'd never met. It's true I owned it twice; that still makes it seven owners, not four. The plate was a personal plate for the previous owner when I bought the car the first time around. I have a copy of the TotalCarCheck report dated 15 March 2025 I can let you have.
