I spotted it at the weekend, and just did the deal.

It's an August 2001 E240 W210, with 16,900 miles. I'm not sure what is standard and what were options on the W210, but new treats for me are lecky seats, tiptronic, xenons, auto-wipers, and trip computer.

It is Azurite Blue, naturally :)

Nice one, where in Guernsey? We lived in Beaumont, Jersey (right by the Martello Tower, if you know it). I know both islands well (at least I did once), it has been around 5 years since last in the CIs.

Well done,
You have been searching a long time. Please tell me you have really examined this very nice vehicle for the dreaded rust and it also has a full MBSH. Don't forget it must be serviced at least once every two years.

Regarding options.

Your electric seats might be, it depends on how much adjustement you have. Do you have the seat controls on the actual interior door panels? That is the option with memory.

Xeon headlights are an option and are brilliant. I should be able to see you from Torquay :D

Tiptronic on the 240 is also I believe an option.
The rain sensing wiper is standard as is the trip computer.

To cheer you up the E240 Elegance\Avantgarde new would cost approximately £31000 with just the 5 speed tiptronic :)

Happy motoring
John

When where the rust issues sorted in the w210?

I thought it was a case of when were they introduced....as in only early cars can be classed as exempt.

Hi John, yes indeed I have been looking for a while. Well, keeping an eye out anyway.

I was really quite paranoid about it, basically because of all the horror stories, so I was as careful as I know how to be. I've inspected it four times, had an hour and a half test drive and been through all the switches, settings etc. Finally today I had it put up on the ramp, and me and the workshop manager (who is a personal friend of mine) spent half an hour going over it all with a magnifying glass. Then we ran through the service records.

We found nothing, not even a dirty bit! It was perfect in all respects, so it had to happen. The only spoiler is no leather, which I would have liked, but there you go. ideally I would have waited for leather, but another two or three months and I'd have to fix the rust on the C-Class to trade it in...

Seats are powered on the seat base, not the door, so no memory option, and I am looking forward (ha) to trying out the Xenons. Shame the clocks have just changed eh!!

It's being polished etc and hopefully I'll be collecting very soon.

Hi Zooman. Although I travel to Jersey very frequently for work (taking a small plane to work is a great start to the day by the way) I'm not sure where Beaumont is, but I do know the name. I know the taxi route from the airport to the Esplanade pretty well though.

I live in Guernsey near the sports fields at Foote's Lane Rugby Club.

When coming down Beaumont Hill from St Peters (airport) you come to a filter in turn (by two pubs "Goose on the Green" & "The Forresters Arms", both great pubs), when you turn left heading to St Helier you see a Martello Tower just opposite that. Trying to picture where you are. How much is fuel nowadays in the CI?

Ah yes, I knew I'd heard of it. I go past it every time (usually very slowly in that damned traffic jam all the way from the hill to the dual carriageway). I bet that was handy for the beach!

To find me come out of Town head west toward Cobo Bay. Pass Safeway. When you get to Footes Lane you can see the floodlights for the sports fields, and there is the Grammar School just there as well. Turn North, go along Footes Lane and keep going through the lanes and you get to me. Or go about a mile North of Sausmarez Park near Cobo Bay. Nearest pub is the Pony Inn one mile to the North.

Fuel is about 55p I think - we don't have those big ugly signs displaying the price, and as I need to buy the damned stuff anyway I don't get hung up about the price.

I had a shock at the prices when we moved back to Cumbria (I smoke, drive and drink) the cost difference may not seem much but it soon adds up. My wife worked for the states in a essentially qualified person role and as such we where not subject to the normal housing regulations, I often wish we had not moved back. I never worked on the island so most weekends and breaks where like holidays. And yes very handy for the beach, I would get my morning paper from the co op and go and read it sat on the breakwall or sands (if wind permitted). I have just been looking at hotels for a week break (I'm blaming you). The thing I miss most is the good food, I don't think islanders know how good the local food is. We never drove into St Helier it is like that all day long seven days a week and then parking with them daft cards :(. Don't you love the way we all use pubs as landmarks :).

Sorry to start you thinking!! At least you can get a break for sensible money. You should try travelling the other way, ie from here to UK. It is at least twice as expensive.

Yes the food is very good, especially if one is able to go and catch it fresh. At the end of May the crabs go barmy and come inshore to breed. I will be waiting for them with a big boiling pot!! Somehow they taste better than the ones from the fishmonger.

Well, in readiness for collecting my 210, today at lunchtime I removed from my 202:

Club pedals
Dimming RVM
Blinds, side and rear
DVD player and TFT screen
BP TravelPilot

It took about 20 mins. When I think of how long that lot took to install...

I just need to do another 55 miles to get to 85,000 before I take the 202 in.

:D How many times around the island is that? :)

We were really impressed with our 210, and you are going to be really impressed with those headlights.

Good luck,
John

Well that depends if I take the coast road or not!!

I hope it will be ready tomorrow. Friday afternoon feeling is bad enough without having to wait for a new car. If not then Monday seems like an awful long time...

Sadly no, it was shut down many (15??) years ago, as was the bakery opposite, and the small petrol forecourt as well.

Yeehar!!
