For reasons I can't begin to understand , my recently purchased AMG E53 seems to be possessed by the spirit of Dracula.

The main USB port in the cup holder storage area only works at night or a dark environment like my garage.
As soon as I reverse out of the garage, it stops charging my phone and android auto stops.Drive back into the garage and the USB port starts working again .
If I drive the car at night it stays on and works fine.
Has anyone any ideas ??

No idea why but must be something to do with the USB only having power when the dash lights are on. Wierd one.

If my car was all black,I'd be inclined to agree with you but on reflection, many outfits the count wears are predominantly black and red ,and as these are the main colours of my car,I think you have cracked it.
I will cancel the service and head to the local abattoir.

Bit of a thread resurrection here, but in case anyone else comes across this (as I did earlier which helped me diagnose this issue), it relates to incorrect wiring of the MBUX system and it tying into the lighting circuit (in my case at least). After purchasing the vehicle 2nd-hand and finding that the primary USB port was dead (no power with a voltmeter etc) I figured it might be a detached cable, however after seeing this thread I tried turning the dipped beams on and suddenly the port had power (sort of).

The port has power for a few seconds at a time before a slight blip (which shows as a disconnect on your mobile device), before repeating over and over. I managed to video the issue on a different device to show what was happening. Once I showed the video to Mercedes one of their technicians recognised it (I'm told it was a fault specific to a generation of E53's) whereby the wires within one of the connectors for the MBUX unit were mirrored/reversed, hence the strange behaviour. They rewired the connector on mine and the unit was fixed (tested with two devices just to be sure).
