Luckily his wife is a sprightly 72.....

WTF! The poor mites will probably be orphaned before they get out of junior school

I can’t think of much which is such a stupid and selfish idea

The husband had a stroke the day after the twins were delivered.

Actually was that the reason for the long delay? Perhaps they were delivered by Yodel?

As a grandfather who looks after 2 year old twins 3 days per week I can tell you they are seriously hard work and I'm only 65. Somehow it seems more than twice the work it should be. They are an absolute joy though and I wouldn't have missed the experience for anything.

I do agree it's selfish to parent children in extreme old age. Even if the parents were to survive a reasonable period of the twins childhood, they are inevitably breeding home help.

My alternative view: I’m 73 and have a 4-year old daughter. In those four years I’ve already been able to spend more time with her than I did with the two children I had in my early twenties. My younger wife still works full time so I’ve been the one at home playing games and running around. Of course it’s exhausting, but I wouldn’t have missed a second - it’s going to be strange when she starts school next week. Age is just a number - it’s how we deal with that number that matters. It’s certainly nobody else’s business, especially when they don’t know or understand the full circumstances.

With respect: The apposite phrase in your post is "Younger wife" plus there is absolutely no correlation between the circumstances you describe in your family home compared o those of the family in India The father for one is 13 years older than yourself and has now unfortunately suffered a stroke.

I so misread / misunderstood the thread title....

The proud father says he is delighted, but exhausted and wants a serious chat with the premature ejaculation specialist he consulted in 1971.

If the story is true it’s wrong on so many levels not least so unfair on the children who have no choice in this unlike the parents and to answer the question, of course. Madness at that age!
