It took me a couple of days before i realised that some **** had swiped my bonnet badge.

Fortunately, the idiot didn't manage to cause any damage to the rest of the car in the process which is a relief.

I have a W211 and would like to know which badge to buy. I checked EBay and there appears to be a 45mm badge and a 50mm badge. I have no idea which mine was as i never measured it.

Any help would be appreciated. I now have a nice hole in my bonnet that looks very odd.

 Makes my blood boil when the turds are on the prowl. Watch out for the ones on eBay...it might be yours.

First off I would contact the local dealership. You might be surprised at the price!

Sorry to hear about your experience, it is sadly a post that is regularly seen on this forum

Good luck,
John

If its a prefacelift W211 the part you want is 210 880 01 86

Its a 45mm base and is the same part as used on late W124's and on W210's

I have a star from a brand new boxed with the blue band at the bottom. £11.50 delivered :)

I recomend on enshuring that wherver you buy your replacement from make shure its fairly genuine (MB Dealers or at GSF at the very least) there are many cheap copys out there which i would recomend you seriously avoid and be aware off what you are buying and the standard of it.

Also did you know you can get removable badges. like on the car stereos where you can remove the face plate before you leave the car you can do the same with a mercedes badge. Enquire at your local dealer for further details.

Can you not replace the badge with one of these:

And then drive quickly at anyone who looks like they steal bits off cars. (Namely hood-wearing miscreants.)

Or you could wire the replacement up to something like...........

Why not go for a removable star?
I got mine from ebay, from a chap in Germany, great quality, cost about £60

IIRC *all* upright bonnet ornaments are compatible with each other. Every so often the design gets slightly updated and whichever car gets it first dictates which series the new part number comes from.

Thanks guys for your help. I think i am going to order online with MB because its relatively cheap and atleast that way i know its a genuine part.

I did think about having a flat badge to put off thieves but i prefer to keep the car original. The icing on the cake will be if i fit a new badge and then someone nicks that!

Topping that, i fit a new badge and the same **** nicks it that nicked the first one.

Its a good thing that they do 'detach' from the car relatively easily otherwise it could be very expensive if bodywork repairs were required also.

I might leave a sign next to the badge which would read as follows:

" If you are thinking of stealing this badge dont, instead knock on my door and i'll give you £14 instead so you can go buy a brand new one as thats how much its going to cost me atleast"

Then again i am assuming that the moron who is nicking my badge can read.
