Hi everyone. Fairly new to this forum. I have a 2018 GLC Coupe 250d premium pack in black. I’ve searched the forum but couldn’t find a specific answer so I’d thought I’d ask and hopefully get some suggestions from someone.
Last night as I was parked out of the way at my local petrol station to go pick up some food on return to my car a lady winds her window down to let me know that she had merely “touched” my front bumper as she reversed and that she was sorry. I let her go because I couldn’t see the damage due to the car being dirty. Came home and gave it a wash. That’s when I saw the damage she had caused. Unfortunately at this stage I am prepared to try and sort it out myself. So without further ado I’ve attached some photos of before and after I used some t cut and polish on the scratch. Luckily it’s not dented that I can see. The scratches are still visible now but wanted to know whether I could use some kind of wax to blend it in better until I can afford to get it fixed? The scratch is much more visible in the day light rather than when I take a photo with my flash on at night. Thanks in advance.

A professional body shop may be able to use a slightly more aggressive cutting compound and get the marks out.

Failing that is there any CCTV that might show the incident and let you track down the driver?

I’m getting CCTV tomorrow, however unsure if it’s worth the hassle? I don’t want to go through my insurance to claim. Unless I requested their details via the DVLA? Any experience with that? What am I looking at roughly price wise if I went to a body shop?

No idea to the questions, ask for a quote? I doubt it would be expensive.

Will do, thanks. I was hoping to try and get it out myself but maybe a trip to the body shop like you said. Thanks again

Even a decent local detailer could probably sort it.

Summat an now’t. (Apply Yorkshire accent).

Don’t think there’s anyway dvla will give out information .

I’m sure this is a good enough reason. Either way I’m not going to go ahead with it as it’s time consuming and I’d rather sort it out myself

Start with G3 and a buff might take out shallow ones , use plenty of water so not to burn paint ,, but need to be careful

There is no way they will give out names and addresses even for cloned number plates. For any information at all you need the number off the v5 to start with. And this will only confirm the make of car. ,,, as you say probably not worth chasing up , do your head in trying to .

Did you bother to read the link I posted before you gave out inaccurate information again?

Taken from the DVLA Webpage:

"You can ask DVLA for information about your vehicle or another vehicle and its registered keeper if you have a ‘reasonable cause’.

Information about another vehicle or its registered keeper
You can ask for details of another vehicle’s registered keeper. You’ll need a ‘reasonable cause’, for example:

  • finding out who was responsible for an accident
  • tracing the registered keeper of an abandoned vehicle
  • tracing the registered keeper of a vehicle parked on private land
  • giving out parking tickets
  • giving out trespass charge notices
  • tracing people responsible for driving off without paying for goods and services
  • tracing people suspected of insurance fraud"

If you don't want to get insurance involved I would suggest that you devote your energy into finding a good local detailer/finisher/dent repair guy to professionally repair what seems to mainly be a surface blemish. You could start by asking your local MB dealer/supplier who they use to fettle their used car stock prior to sale [ they all do this], or ask on here for personal recommendations for someone local to your location?

Not worth the hassle IMHO. You did let her go as you could not see any damage when it happened , if it did go through the insurance she would just say that she did not cause the damage as there was none (according to you) at that time and that the damage must have happened later. Plus you have tried to remove the marks yourself.

I would contact a local , recommended , detailer and have a chat with them. It is amazing what can be achieved with the right products in the right hands.

K

Thank you guys it’s much appreciated. I’m based in Manchester so any recommendations are welcome around this area.

I’d probably just leave it, after looking at the second pic you’ve posted after you polished it, the damage appears to be very much unnoticeable.
