I heard the alarm go off, I looked out the window and saw the door wide open. So I run to get my trousers, come out with my belt in my hand and there are people around, but no one saw nothing. This is in broad day light at around 16:30.

I asked some guy who was close by and he said "Well I thought someone just made a mistake with their controller, u know how alarms go off for no reason".

They didn't take anything, I don't keep any valuables in the car. They just went through my glove box.

Now I'm gonna be feeling sh1t until I get it fixed tomorrow.

How much is it roughly to get it fixed? Anyone know? Should I buy Mercedes glass as it will have the same tint...

If you want the 'repair' to be undetectable , then get genuine Mercedes glass ( Sekurit , Sigla ? ) - otherwise if you choose aftermarket glass from one of the windscreen specialists , it will most likely fit perfectly and be the same colour but might have different branding logos on it so that a potential purchaser in the future might see that the car has been broken into at some point and might be put off .

why would a non mb glass put any buyer off, it wouldnt put me off if a car had been broken into in the past... most cars have had glass replaced at come point..

Mercedes glass is really cheap from the dealer.

I always tend to look at the glass on any car I'm considering purchasing .

Mismatched quarterlight glass is a pretty good indication a car has been broken into , possibly stolen and mistreated at some point .

Larger pieces of glass being different ( apart from front windscreen ) could be evidence of an accident repair . Especially if both doors on one side of a car have different glass from the rest of the car : pretty strong evidence pointing to a side impact at some time .

The market is awash with used cars and I'd just as soon have one that has no evidence of the above so would walk away .

Hmmm Mercedes charged me £20-£25 for one carpet that needed replacing (driver carpet) and the spare key was like £150 or something. I hope they don't ask £100+ for the glass, because I might end up getting the copy if it has the same tint and is much cheaper...

And to stevesey, it's Sunday, I was relaxing at home... I didn't have my jeans on... I needed my jeans for the belt (I'm not gonna come out empty handed while they are tooled up) or I would have run out in my boxers, haha!

anyone nearby strimming or mowing their lawn at the time??

Anyway, sorry to hear of the 'attempted theft from', hopefully they won't come back (keep your trousers on, meantime)

Expect the window to be about £20.

Got it fixed today, but I don't feel better at all. They had to take all the inside door panelling off and stuff. It was quite horrible to see my car get pulled apart like that... :(

The glass was cheap, £27 including VAT. So it's probably 10p to make! ;)
