My 18 month old Sony VGN-FE31Z laptop battery just failed all of a sudden. Laptop is now only useable near a power point which sort of defeats the reason for having a laptop. A quick check on the internet listed loads more people with the same fault (no battery detected).

So if you have a Sony laptop and want to use it when away from the office/house buy a very long extension lead.

You have to remember that batteries are consumables and are only warranted ( generally ) for 6 months as such.

The Sony batteries seem particularly prone to early failure IME

Given the cost of replacement (and tendency for lack of third party replacements because of their 'intelligence') one would assume Sony might take the responsibility of warranting them appropriately.
