Hi guys,
Quick question: does a sorn +write off (as per a car check report) always means that the car was involved is an accident?

TIA

SORN is a voluntary thing, I use it all the time for some of our cars when we don’t need them on the road (kit cars during winter etc). “Write off” is an entirely different thing and seems self-explanatory to me.

It would be logical to SORN a write-off so you don’t have to tax and insure it.

There are a few reasons why a car could be written-off.

Could have been flood-damaged, fire-damaged or had too many parts stolen from it etc.

Just means uneconomical to put back as it was prior.

Written Off could also be CAT N (non-structural) and so it could be vandalised requiring a full respray or these days smashed headlights are so expensive it wouldn't take much to write off a car with very light front end damage

Test driven such a car (212) the other day. Really nice interior but. Paint with stone chips, spots etc, one headlight slightly damaged, very minor dent on rear fender and I bet some suspension parts on their way out. But most importantly, it did not have the power and oomph I expected from it on the motorway.
Case closed. Thx.
