W202 C220 Elegance Auto
Hi, I registered here years ago when I had a W126 but only made 2 posts, well much time has gone by and I am once again in a Benz, a 95 C220 Elegance Automatic. I will be popping in regularly and im sure asking lots of questions relating to whats currently broken! thanks all.

Welcome back to MB ownership. :thumb:

W202's are solid cars, so not much should go wrong.

Well thats what I hear, ive had BMWs of various sorts for the past few years and ive been very happy with them all but ive not had a 'modern' (hehe) Merc before so hopefully this will impress me.

Im already very happy with the fuel economy and performance for a small engine in a fairly heavy car though, and the solidity of the interior is very impressive. Its a 95 M with 108k miles on it.

So far I have replaced the OS lower balljoint, however I think the other side needs doing too, only very slight play but enough to bug me. I have also changed the ATF and filter and spark plugs. Im going to Portsmouth in it tomorrow (from the Midlands) which is the 1st long journey im doing in her. When I return I will do oil/filter, air filter and whatever other little service jobs need doing.

It was misting up quite badly, turns out due to an ancient cabin filter which has just been removed for now.

It needs some work on the cooling system too, I dont think the viscous fan works and it always seems to run at 80, shouldnt it get a bit warmer than that?

Things im not keen on, well they dont have the oil pressure gauge, and personally I think the indicator multistalk is better on the right hand side like the older ones but thats about it! Oh and the steering is super light compared to what im used to but I will adapt!
