On a lighter note, I did'nt even know of the 'tags' before this thread so cheers fellas.

And must say the 'wash mits at dawn' is my fav!!

There were some excellent ones on your coming out as a caravanner thread too. :)

But above all I see mbclub as my 'home' site. I have made alot of friends here and had some awesome trackdays with friends, clients and members. I fill I have alot to give to this site as far as advice and pulling in extra mentle cars for the track days for members to enjoy.

Kind regards

Michael

Just to say Michael detailed my Coupe beautifully, and it was great to meet him again at Goodwood for the second of the AMG trackdays, I think both of which he attended, even if in a Porker the second time :ban:. Although I had a BMW so I should should possibly be quiet on the subject!

I very much appreciate Adam and Michael's contributions, Adam coming highly recommended by Olly and C43AMG, both of whom are stalwarts of this site.

I've always wondered if detailers are the male equivalents of waxing salons. Perhaps a before and after series of photos might help?

What good is this thread?

Or this one?

Here's Adams;

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/detailing-mbclub/115920-how-valet-your-mercedes-exterior.html

I notice PaulHVD's tags have been cleaned up; they were all the name of his company, yet he wasn't trying to advertise? Hmmmm....

This all needs to be put in perspective as well, this is a Mercedes Motoring forum, not a cleaning/valeting one so I'll say it again; unless the is a how-to and what's-used on the 'detailing' thread, then what's the point? I can't see any other answer than advertising...

And for the record, I have no reason to stick up for Adam other than that he comes across as a genuine lad who cuts the all the 'detailing' waffle and tells it like it is.

And these are helpful how???

And what's the difference with these threads then.... clearly advertising that Adam valet's/details for living.... he may not of put company details in the tags, but everyone know's how to PM!!!

As I clearly stated in my earlier post, if the MODS had replied back to me I would of done a write up etc if a sponsorship was given, but why should I give away my tricks of my trade, yes I do have a family, wife and 2 children to feed and a roof to put over their heads. So why would I tell everyone how to detail there car.....

My post were Merc's and clearing showing members that poor bodyshop painting can sometimes be rectified without major expense.

Sometime's think to yourself why are people's prices cheap, overheads INSURANCE!!! etc, would you be impressed with a 2k+ respray cost just to save a few £ on a detail cost if anything were to happen.

why should I give away my tricks of my trade,

So why would I tell everyone how to detail there car.....

I'll take that as an admission then that you were advertising 'under the radar'.

Unless I'm mistaken, the main fundamental foundation of a forum is to help others out, those that are looking for genuine help and advice.

First off you say that you weren't trying to advertise for free and then you say 'why should I give away my tricks of my trade', which is it?

When oh when will people realise that forums aren't a democracy?

Because by telling them you dont come across as conceited and small minded. Let's be honest I'm not going to hire your services as I dont have that much surplus cash, hence I do what I can with what I have. Some of us also live and make do within limited budgets.

Sorry to sound harsh, your skills are not unique, although honed over time they may well be. I would like to learn and see how others have detailed so I may possibly be able to emulate their work. However I do understand that it is time consuming. If you take a leaf out of other independent mechanics (also trading) who post their HOWTO threads on here for the benefit of others, you would see that it wont hurt your business if you came across as a helpful person. You are merely advising someone on how to do the job.

If you dont want to help or feel the need to 'give away the tricks of your trade' then you could not bother posting drivel on here full stop.

I think the real problem with this thread is that neither party has done anything other than to seriously damage their own reputations. This is the problem with arguing on a public-access forum. Particularly one which ranks so well on Google. Anyone googling your businesses will almost certainly see this thread on the first page of the results.

It has been very entertaining for the forum members, and entertaining no doubt also to a whole load of anonymous passing internet traffic. Hopefully it will serve as a warning to others. Air your dirty laundry in private between yourselves, not in public where any amount of potential customers can see it.

I hope your reputations survive intact, but if they don't then you'll at least know why.

Unfortunately, having read the exchanges, they both came across as a couple of silly boys, albeit in slightly different ways.

Did I read on here one of the detailers was banned for spilling the beans?

Too right. All that money for a shiney car to end up with beans all over it.

Nasty and unprofessional.

Advertising.

With all these detailers competing for work, you'd think the prices would be more reasonable.

That said, I'm thinking at this point that commercial detailers shouldn't be posting here at all. We can all go to detailing world if we want that kind of thing.

Wax on
Wax off

Define reasonable? :)

In regards to detailing world you would need to pay to advertise/support the forum if you were a business and wanted to make business/advertising type threads.

Thanks for de....tale boys interesting

£150 a year to post as a business. That lets you have pictures with your business name on, can include pics of business premises, vans etc. The signature can have a banner and URL and the Avatar can be your logo.

Without payment no advertising is allowed.
