The space saver spare wheel holder on my W163.113 looks like (see attached) - it is not the first, or the worst, one I have seen so badly rusted through. They seem to be good at collecting salt water in the winter.
I would have thought that this would be a good market for such a part and that it would be easy to find. Apparently not.
Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas where I can source a new frame? A part number would probably help a lot I guess ...

Have you tried MB specialist breakers or any other breakers? Merparts (not sure, though) come to mind as a possibility. Failing that it might be possible to remove it and get it refurbished by a local blacksmith / welder / gate-maker / engineering shop, etc. A last-ditch option would be to go to your local, friendly MB dealership and order it from them.

One thought is that MB in Grangemouth are offering discounts to members of the other forum and they may be able to help, although if the part needs ordering, there may be limited discounts.

Maybe some ideas?

That's strange, I noticed mine the other day was very rusty on my W163. I was gonna take it off and clean it and repaint but after seeing this it might be pointless! I wouldn't like to think how much a dealer would charge.

Thanks for your suggestions and comments - breakers was my first choice too - but they really all do look more or less like this (MY 2003) example in my picture.
Since the part is actually an open "C" made of steel tube my theory is that salty water runs down the inside in the winter and rusts from the inside out. I have taken this one off, wire-brushed it, treated it and hammerite painted it already twice before - but it obviously didn't help. Looked good when it did it though!
Now the blacksmith option seems the most likely one. Shame, I would have thought that there was a good market for this part as it would be relatively simple to make.
My local friendly MB dealer only seems to have the diamond-studded version available :-( . I was hoping to make the car look better ... not double its value!
