I've got 30mm all round on the ML. The rear in particular REALLY needs them as the track looks ridiculous otherwise. Like a 50's Austin A35 van..
I reckon if you parked it on a tall kerb it would fall over....
Can't say I've noticed any reduction in grip. It certainly does roll less and seems to turn-in faster as well. also looks the business!
From about 20mm thickness upward, they tend to be fitted with threaded inserts, so you just use your original wheel bolts.
Been through 4 MOTs and didn't get a mention.
