Decided yesterday to change spark plugs on my 1998 CLK 320 started on the near side removed washer bottle etc for access, I have so far removed 2 of the coils and leads and can see no problem problems in removing the plugs, however I am having great difficulty in finding a way to remove the last plug lead nearest the cab at the back. Be very greatfull if anyone knows of special tool or tip to remove the lead from spark plug.

Many thanks,

Gareth

Accepting that you will get bloody knuckles helps. I did mine last Thursday - it's relativly simple, just fiddely. A socket set with an angled bit helps.

A large open-ended spanner works.

I have already the bloody knuckles.
Thanks for tip on open ended spanner I am going out now to try.
Thanks

17mm spanner in from the top levering against the rocker cover works a treat, then wiggle the plug socket into the plug hole then the 3" extension then the ratchet once loose remove the ratchet, pull out the extension and remove it from the socket then remove the plug and the socket.
This is how i did the wifes 320 a couple of weeks ago.

and when you put the new ones in, put a squirt of WD40 in the cap first....makes it soooo much easier. Don't pull on the the cable from the coil pack to the plugs....they are expensive !

Done it

Thanks for all the advice, I have now replaced all plugs and turned out not to be that bad of a job with the right tools, I purchsed a 1/4 drive socket with a UJ attached realy worked well.
once again thanks for replys.

Gareth

The special tool used for adjusting the tappets on a m110 engine is now the tool for removing the plugtops . If thats any help .
