Rocker cover or spillage from the filler hole? Fresh oil or used?

You don't say which engine. If it were burning the oil in a V6, it would be on the electrodes of two plugs. If it is on one and on the outside then it has come from the outside. What-from depends on which plug and which engine.

Clean the side of the engine so you can see if the leak persists and where it is from.

I like to clean the engine before changing plugs so grit and muck cannot get pushed down the holes. Plugs go fully home finger-tight plus ~1/4 turn to set the compression washer, or whatever the book says for the torque wrench (typ.20-lb.ft). On these engines plug change interval is very, very infrequent. The triple electrodes cannot be reset but they last almost forever.
