Special order / batch colour options on W123's ??

Hi all, can someone advise.

This car is up for auction by me - As per the item description a chap has got in contact telling me it's likely to be a special order colour - Could this be true? Thoughts?

I'm wondering whether I should be hanging on to it instead

From the pictures, I'm inclined to think that the car has had paint and most likely a different shade of red used in the paint job.

Without peeling back rubbers and such and having a closer inspection though, I'm only guessing.

Looking at your engine bay, it looks like the original colour may have been a sort of Maroon.
