On the original order form for my car, Extra was paid for "Special Paint Finish". Does anyone know what this is & why was it special compared to standard finish?

The colour is brilliant silver and the car was actually purchased new in Germany for a very sickening low price under the NATO agreement.

Was the special finish available in the U.K aswell or was it only available in certain country's.

Is it still a option on new cars?

Thanks all.

Paul,

Does the entry on the form have an MB option code? There is a site somewhere which translates all the option codes. If so you should be able to get to the bottom of it.

If not, it may be some sort of treatment like Supaguard, which is sometimes offered on new cars on the basis that it keeps the car "looking like new".

Hi Guy,

I've checked the order form and it is shown as follows:

    SPECIAL EQUIPMENT:
SPECIAL PAINT FINISH DM 1 460,OO
                                                                (£470)

    SPECIAL UPHOLSTERY DM 3 010,00
                                                                 (£984)

345 WINDSCREEN WIPER WITH RAIN SENSOR DM 150,00
                                                                 (£49)

423 AUTOMATIC 5-SPEED TRAMISSION DM 2 990,00
                                                                  (£977)

And so on.......

Out of interest my car was ordered for a June 1997 delivery date and aswell as the above, extra was paid for; up graded radio & 6CD, air con', uprated battery, matching higher output Alt' & elegance fittings, the total cost was £19,113.62P

This included a NATO discount of DM 10312 (£ 3371)

Despite this over £30,000 was paid for it when it was 6 months old from Ipswich Mercedes by my brother

This is prior to MB being "advised" to reduce their UK prices.

Which just goes to show how much we get ripped off in good old Blighty!!

you brought a car for 20K from MB DE and then 6 months later when u upgraded MB UK sold it to your brother for 30K?

LMFAO

No,no. My brother was the second owner, I had the car from him, after he got a S320cdi.

When he purchased the car the dealer admitted that they, along with other prestige car dealers had back hand (but legal) deals going with NATO serving officers in Germany.

What the jest of it was is as follows:

The dealer told the officer what car / model/ colour & spec etc. that he wanted. The officer in Germany then ordered the car as requested, BUT, he is able to buy under a special NATO agreement which is a very hefty discount, and he pays ZERO TAX!
This along with the fact that NATO buy direct is why the car only cost £19,000 approx'.

Then he keeps the car stored in Germany for 6 months before bringing it to England.

Now because the car is officially imported as "used" and is six months old there is zero VAT to be paid upon arrival in England.

The car goes straight to the dealership for a pre agreed price say; £26,000. The dealer is happy as he's got the exact spec' car he knows he can sale, & it only has around 2,000 miles.

The officer is happy as he's made £6-7,000 for sweet F/A.

My brother comes along,he's happy as he's got the car & spec he wants for slightly less than the price of a new car and without the waiting list's.

Hope you followed all that as I got lost twice.

If your going on Saturday I will bring the original order form and we can all see how much MB rip off it's UK customers.
