Hello, Having never owned a Mercedes I'm now considering changing my E39 BMW Touring for a W210 E Class, due to the larger estate area. I'm particularly interested in the E55 and am well aware of (at least some) of the potential issues. As I'm not that mechanically minded and a decent (or supposidly decent) E55 is still going to command a fair price, I would like to get a PPI from someone who know the cars well, and know what to look for. Years ago when I bought my Porsche 944, one PPI turned out to be priceless. Well saved me £8K. So does anyone know of anybody who will travel to inspect cars, as although I'm in Wiltshire the cars seem to be all over the place as they are quite rare. Thanks or any advice.

The W210 represents the low water mark of Mercedes quality and the cars are famous for rusting everywhere. Within 3 years any W210 you buy will be worthless

As an E39 driver, and seller of W124s, I wouldn't touch a W210 with a bargepole. Many on this forum will disagree but I consider the W210 to be a poor investment in every way

I'd agree, the W210 was renound for issues thoughout the MB headoffice (past employment) warranty claims galore on bodywork.

W211 is a much improved model.

My budget was £2k, so couldn't afford a w211. I probably wouldn't want an early W211 (or any other model) as they always have the problems to iron out.

Ribbon cables and electrickery brakes on the early ones.
