Today I repaired the common LCD pixel display problem by replacing the data strips to the temperature and clock/gearbox selector display LCDs of the dashboard on my E320.
The LCD display now works perfectly, but as the speedo was consistently under-reading I adjusted the needle on the analogue "clock" so that it is now accurate, however I realized that the electronic readout will still display speed based on what the car will "think" is the correct speed.
The speedo was consistently under-reading by about 10% showing 33mph while actually travelling at 30mph, or 77mph while doing 70mph, so while the analogue clock is now correct, the electronic display still reads out 10% lower than the actual display (based on GPS data).
So to my question... Is the mileage recorded by the car based on the electronic data shared with the electronic speed reading? If so, the recorded mileage would be about 10% higher than the real mileage - so my recorded mileage of 146,000 miles indicates an approximate actual mileage of 131,000 miles.
Maybe I'm a bit pedantic about it, but 10% difference seems rather a lot.
