Speedo Problem

Hi,

Have a MB C180 1.8......L 1994

when pulling away from standstill, speedo dont work until i get upto approx 20 MPH, then all of a sudden it will kick in.

It does this with engine hot or cold, i know its electronic, but i do not have a clue what is causing this!!!

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Sounds like the needle is sticking to the stop pin.
Try driving at 10mph and tapping the dash to see if the speedo needle jumps up.
If it is that, it's a speedo out job to fix.

As above but if the that doesn't fix the problem, it could be a failing sensor, bad connection or dirty / rusty reluctor ring. Do you get an ABS fault?

Speedo prob

Hi guys,

Thanks for the speedy reply

Drove slowly and tapped it, nothing happens

I think grumpyoldgit might have hit the nail, lots of rust and corrosion towards arms on the front..... only thing is i dont get a ABS light of any kind, whilst driving.

How do i get to the reluctor ring to check?

There are 50 taps in one thump, if you only taped it then you might have gotten a false reading, try thumping it.
