hi problem magnets,
I have a 2003 clk270 cdi and would like to know what the difference is between the 'W' and 'S' settings for the gearbox. Does the kickdown work in winter mode? My car drives like a rocket sometimes and then the acceleration is very poor other times. Could it be this setting or the MAF sensor. I can drive all day and it constantly changes acceleration performance. :dk:
thanks in advance

Hi Grommit
W tends to set off in higher gears and select higher gears sooner making the car a little more sedate in poor traction conditions

Thanks for that,
If the car is in W mode and you kick down the accelerator does it accelerate slower that in S mode? My thoughts are that if this is true then my car is intermittently switching between W and S whilst driving. Can this be possible?

not fully sure, but in the main, the W mode the car sets off in 2nd gear not 1st. But if you press hard enough it will down change to 1st.

it should also want to change up pretty quickly, irrespective of your wants regarding pressing the throttle, but kickdown should still work.

Hi Grommit,
If you think the gear box is changing between S and W mode, do you notice the display changing? (beside mileage on my car shows gear box mode)
