Need a spring compressor tool to rent, one that is suitable to remove rear springs off an SEC.

Let me know what you have.

Thanks

I have got a set here in Nuneaton mate, you can borrow them as long as i get them back reasonable quickly as we use them here at work.

You don't use spring compressors on the rear of an SEC to take the springs off IIRC.

That would be awesome mate. I'll drop you a PM now.

Fairly sure you require a spring compressor as I've already tried to loosen the shock on both ends and just drop the arm slowly but no luck spring is still in tension and there is no more movement in the arm.

I dont think the spring compressors fit in the rears but I could stand corrected.

Which end of the arm did you undo? Inner or outer (or both)?

I think for the rear springs, some people support the arm with a jack and then remove the pivot bolt, then gently lowering it?

Not under as much tension once the arms drop when you lift the car IIRC, but others will be able to advise :)

Just put H & R springs on an SEC. The spring compressor fits ok (use the big cups), but you have to remove the shock absorber. Front springs are tensioned from within the engine bay.

I followed a guide on Benzworld which told me to remove the bolts for the shock both top and bottom and then compress the spring, and finally just lower the arm down on a jack. Didn't really want to mess about taking the whole arm off in the fear that it would be hard to line up while compressing the spring also.

Well the car is already on H&R lowering springs so there is hardly any tension when the arm is dropped, but the spring is still firmly seated both top and bottom. Will have to give this a go thanks!

Think I might just give the method above a go first, if not then I'll get hold of some spring compressors from somewhere.

Thanks for the help people, much appreciated! :thumb:
