Hi everyone.
Need a bit of advice, I have a E220 d AMG line W213 and yesterday I have took the car in for a health check because in 2 months it MOT time, at a Mercedes Benz dealership and it came that Is needing a Immediate replacement required of spring link arm lower ball joint due excessive play due to wear, on both sides. The thing it is that the car is only 4 years old with 41.200 miles on the clock. How is this possible the ball joint to wear as fast? I have own the car only for 10 month now so don't know how is been taken care of but even this the lower ball joints can wear as fast as this??? And they give am quote of £319.20 for the replacement and a £288.00 for a wheel alignment. They are trying to make money of me or is a problem with the ball joints?

Poor quality roads, speed humps etc all add to suspension wear.

Try an independent Mercedes specialist for advice and a quote.

The price they have quoted for wheel alignment is excessive.

Is more for poor quality not the roads. I had a BMW 520 and trade it with 65000miles on the clock and had no trouble with that joints at all pass the MOT with flying colors. But really surprised by the quality of Mercedes I was expecting a lot better or even better than BMW. I will tri to take the car in with a Mercedes specialist and see what he says and give me a quote.

As you say, you have no idea how the car was used previously so no way of knowing if poor quality or harsh treatment is the cause.

You really do not want a ball joint coming apart while you are driving - a world of pain. Don't dally.

I do not think that you can expect a premium product from BMW, Mercedes etc anymore.

They are mass market vehicles sold to generate finance

A friend has a 2010 BMW 530 that has covered 50,000 miles. It has had to have a new Satnav screen, A/C failures, Brake sensor failures and other electrical issues

The figures you've been quoted aren't that bad to be honest. I had my drivers side lower control arm replaced on my C63 and the cost plus alignment was £651 and that was at an independent garage, so your quote is a pretty good deal in my opinion! As others have said, you should get that fixed ASAP. I had to have mine done as i'd hit a huge pothole and the car had begun to feel 'wayward' under hard acceleration.....

Not really comparable as I assume that the parts for a C63 are generally more expensive.

£288 for wheel alignment after changing a suspension arm is excessive.
and it is down to MB labour rates.

I would rather go to a specialist alignment centre where a full 4 wheel alignment would be under half that quote from MB.

Fair point but ultimately, its a heavy duty chunk of metal with a couple of ball joints on it - can't really see why it should be any more expensive (even though i'm aware that it is). Agreed that the alignment is robbery at £288, just checked my bill and I paid £85 for mine.

I don't say that I will not do it I was just in shock about the news that need new ball joint on both sides. I will get in touch with a Mercedes specialist and ask for a quote.

Do I have to change the hole spring arm or just the joint ball.??

It depends on which part is worn.

They told me that have excessive play due to wear on lower ball joints
