I have no problem keeping people up to date on how things are going, thanks for the interest.
I will give you guys a quick post to bring you all up to speed
Going back about three months ago I got hold of a cheap Metro GTI with a view to sprinting/hillclimbing on a budget to have so fun. So far this has been done:
Interior striped and cleaned
Front and rear spoilers removed
Plugs, Distributor, leads and rotor replaced
Outlet manifold gasket replaced and studs re-tapped and replaced.
Backbox replaced
Timing belt replaced
At the moment the rot is being cut out and a small patch welded in the back.
and then the prep work will begin getting all the small body work bits filled and preped.
I have been given my first sponsors cheque so Ian and I are off to Demon Tweeks (Motorsports shop) in Wrexham to pick up so Yokohama racing rubber.
(If anyone else wants a mention on the car then let me know ;) )
As for where and when I will be racing, I will be in the Midland Speed Championship in SA Class next year at the following events:

Sun 27th March Harewood Near Leeds Hillclimb
Sun 17th April 3 Sisters Wigan Sprint
Sun 15th May Shelsley Nr Worcester Hillclimb
Sat 25th June Aintree Liverpool Sprint
Sun 10th July Harewood Near Leeds Hillclimb
Sun 24th July Prescott Cheltenham Hillclimb
Sat 13th August 3 Sisters Wigan Sprint
Mon 29th August Elvinton York Sprint
Sun 25th Sept Curborough Staffs Hillclimb

Anyone wanting to know more about the series then the can go here here

If anyone want to be involved in this project then feel free to drop me a line.

The main thing we are going for in this project is Serious Fun on a budget.

Again thanks for showing interest in our little project :D
Mark

EDIT:MODS
If there is enough interest in this where would you like me to post a topic for it (Gen, Events or OT section?)

I'd come to watch - especially at the Harewood ones :D

You should run in the same championship, would make for some fun events.
Have you thought about what you are going to do with your monster?

no - not really - but much the same spec as you have done - stripped and lightened - original (ish) engine...

Already done the interior stripping, need a pair of seats at the moment... should I leave the dash in? the bods I spoke to said that whatever i do, therre will be a class for me to run in..

tuning the engine from 185 brake (std) is basically 40 thou' off the heads, and a better injection system - but after talking to a specialst bike-carbs-onto-car-engine comapny, they reckon I would get 30 brake extra just by the carbs...
might have to lighten the flywheel off the 5 speed manual box next..
but enthusiam from others would be useful... then we will come up and whup yo' ass baby ;)

I think there are a few things you need to consider when you are moving forwards in the project.
The main thing is do you want to win or have fun thrashing up and around hills.
If you remove the interior and leave it out you can no longer run in most standard road going classes so you will be up against some very serious machines.
Drop me an email if you want to have a chat.

My interior has only been stripped for cleaning and to allow me to make sure the pan of the car is good. It will be going back in at the end of the build to go through the MOT etc.
(wife is not happy our spare room contains a full interior)

Just a quick update.
Avo shocks have now been fitted, oil change done, Cooling system will be back on this weekend, thing are progressing.

I would like to thank the following for there ongoing support

I'll pop along to Shelsley Walsh and Prescott as they are both quite near for me.

Always fancied a look at hillclimbing, a chance to meet up and take a look at your hard work would be a great day out.

See you there.

I'll deffo be there for the Harewood ones (do remind me nearer the time - my memory and all that - age I know) Be good with that spread though - should be able to get support for most. :bannana:

Come on guys n gals - anyone else gonna go and yell for our chaps?

Here is an update.

Car now has the interior put back in.
All brakes have been changed.

Water system blead (and you thought Mercs were tricky  ) Tyres fitted (Yokahama).
