Guys,

Anybody ever fitted a Sprintbooster to their 'drive-by-wire' W202's? The reason I ask is I'm really interested in fitting one as I feel there's initial excess throttle pedal travel on my 202.
Sprintbooster don't list one for the W202 as they insist that all W202's came with a throttle cable. Even after several emails to them they still would accept that some W202's had fully electronic throttles.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I would personally spend your money on something that will actually improve the power of the engine such as a remap or pulley swap, but if you really want one you could try a 208 CLK one they should be the same.

I would personally leave it, they are pointless IMHO. Also all 202's have a cable from the pedal, which either go to a potentiometer near the module box or straight on to inlet manifold depending on age.

Done the pulley, MAF reloction (M5 MAF) etc, etc. Just what to shorten the initial long pedal travel.

Any details on the one for the 208?

Yep, I want a Sprintbooster that is suitable for the throttle potentiometer or for that matter any method/part or modification that will decrease initial throttle pedal travel. The travel is actual ridiculous imo. Any suggestions?

You will still have slack in the pedal, if you look carefully at how much the pedal moves before it moves the bar that operates the throttle you will see what I mean.

I'll investigate that Andy and report back. Hoping there's a relatively easy way to mod it if I can't 'fool' the potentiometer electronically, as it would enhance my driving position which I'm fussy about - you need to be comfortable to go quick! ;)

I've decided to invest in a new throttle cable to the pot for starters and I'm also via trial & error going to add to the throttle pedal thickness, thus bring it closer. I thinking about adding an inch (25mm) or so.

The 'Ring, here I come so! :D

As most on here know I drive the ring a lot on every occasion I have driven it when the car was fitted with a sprint booster or velocity (similar device) the lap times were a lot slower than without it. You just can't feed the power in smooth enough with one of these devices fitted so we remove them before we do the ring.

The only direct comparison I have is on a BMW 530d with the sprintbooster fitted the lap times were consistently +30 seconds slower than without it.

Complete waste of money IMHO, just mod the throttle to eliminate the play, as I agree throttle response is crucial but electonic modification is not the way to go :thumb:

Cheers for the comments. I'll mod the throttle alright but if I can get a cheap SB it would be rude imo not to try it out. I also might try an auto version with the manual box. It's all a learning curve and this car has an awful throttle movement, may not apply to all C230K manuals but I suspect it does. Maybe, I'm being a harsh as my other cars, all N/A have an excellent throttle feel & response (take a bow Honda), thus I could be comparing apples & oranges, still I've got to try all options.

I'll have a look for you we might have some SB left over but not sure what they fit. My CLK 230k and most C230k I have driven have had excellent throttle response, as posted before the problem is the travel in the pedal before it hits the bar and operates the cable eliminate this and throttle response should be snappy if not look at the cable for stretch or potentiometer connection for wear

Cheers, again. New cable on order anyway, Yes, you're dead right it is the initial travel in the pedal that's the real problem, after that the the response is fine. Will have a look at the rear of the pedal & see if I can do something there.

I stripped out the throttle pedal & cable yesterday. I found the cable to be in good condition & smooth in operation. The throttle pedal complete assy on the other hand is just a cheap bit of plastic (no surprise really). The problem with it's operation is simply that both it's pivot points are 100% plastic. The hinge & the pivot on the bulkhead have excess play in them allowing the pedal to sit slightly off to the right, I don't know if it's worn or just like this from new. There wasn't a lot I could do bar pull the pivot pins, clean & grease them up.

What's really called for is a nice set of metal pivot points and some sort of bottom support where the pedal is connected to the hinge, this would eliminate all the play and give a far more liner action to the pedal.

There's a mod for this somewhere that gives you the metal bottom support and metal pins. My CLK has this done :thumb:

PS I did look if I had any SB left but cant find them must have sold them on ebay when we had the garage clear out, sorry

No probs F1, I'm sure to pick up a cheap SB Mk1 somewhere along the line. If you come across the details of the throttle pedal mod I be very grateful if you would post them up.

Thanks again.
