Hi guys,

I have a 2008 Auto Sprinter 209 CDI, which is having some issues, it is a long story but to cut it short.....

Last summer i went travelling Eastern Europe, whilst in Albania ( 40 degrees! ) i had a major auto gear malfunction. It turns out the wiring was melted and shorting as it was resting on part of the exhaust, this was fixed and problem solved ( For the equivalent of £10 :D ) , or so i thought.

Intermittently since then I have had the ESP light come on sometimes with the tyre light and always the high beam ( blue light ). Also some of these times the engine cuts out completely, leaving me with no power assisted steering and in some crappy situations.

Most recently this happened on an Island which nearly had me going up the kerb, scary!

I am lucky enough to have access to a Star system ( although i dont know much about it ) which is giving me the following :

And apparent possible fixes as below ...

What do you guys think? Sensor fried, Wiring issue or some other issue not mentioned by STAR?

Any and all help in diagnosing and solving this will be most welcome, cheers in advance.

Looks like the yaw rate sensor is faulty. Look at the live data for it.

Hi BlackC55

Thanks for the suggestion, how do i go about looking at the live data, i am sorry i am totally new to this STAR thing, and i dont seem to see an option for live data or any specific test for the yaw rate sensor specifically.

Cheers in advance.

Look on the actual values in the ESP system.

Hi BlackC55

I did the live data tests i could see, including road test.

Everything came back as good.

Prior to doing these tests i did however pump up the rear end tyres, they were 25% out form the front!

Do you think that this could cause this kind of problem, or is it just a coincidence it hasnt done it since?

Cheers for you help.

Mat.

I doubt it. Check the wiring to the sensor too.

I will try to check the wiring.

Do you know if the metal rings on screw holes of the yaw sensor are meant to be grounded to the chassis?

Reason i ask is, my floor of van has been modded and carpeted throughout, so neither the screws nor metal rings in sensor screw holes touch any metal of chassis.

Cheers

Mat.
