Squeaking

Hi all again I've noticed that my engine (w202 C180) is squeaking - I can only hear it at idle, and it's not vey loud - but constant. Any ideas what it could be?

It sounds like a belt, but I thought these used a chain?

The viscous fan that cools the engine uses a belt, if you open the bonnet you can see the belt spinning. The belt may need lubricating.

Ah yeah, never thought of that! Whats the best way to stop the squeaking, new belt?

You can give a quick squirt of WD40. that should silence it, albeit temporarily.

Have a close look at it, with the engine stopped, natch, and see if there is any cracking.

Replacement is easy enough and cheap too.
