Hi all,

I had an issue with my indicator stalk and have just fitted a replacement and everything works now but I now have SRS and ESP defective please visit workshop.

I have disconnected and re connected everything three times now and everything appears to be connected properly.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

If the steering wheel was removed, I think you have to do a reset by turning lock to lock a few times?

Hi thanks for reply I Have tried that but both faults still remain

Hi yes battery was disconnected each time before removing any wires, the only thing might be a loose connection when battery was re connected causing the fault and now remains even though all connections are now good.

Is that correct once fault shows it dosent reset unless with Star or similar?

The 2 faults you have are hard codes so if the faults have cleared then you need STAR or similar to clear the dash messages.

was it a new unit? was it locked in the straight ahead position?

It was a new indicator stalk and yes I locked it in position with one of the small screws that held the clock switch in place

i know on the w203 the steering column itself can be worn where the switch mounts, but not heard about it happening on a w211

Strange

I know honestly can’t see what has caused it, will just need to have codes read to see what’s what

Any members in west of Scotland with star could assist with a fault reset ?

Hi all just an update, just bought carisoft to look at codes.

Managed to reset SRS it was low voltage when battery was disconnected.

It said for ESP fault N49 check steering angle sensor

I removed wheel again and found that the back of clock spring which has lots of notches out which rotates through the steering angle sensor are bent/ broken.

The fault appears each time I rotate the wheel which is when the notches are not meeting the correct position on the sensor.

Hope that all made sense!

My question is can I buy just the notched plastic part to attach onto back of clock spring or will it be a complete new spring £125 from MB.

I did ask dealer but he had no clue what I was talking about!

This is parts that have bent/ broken and looks as if that section just clips over the actual clock spring mechanisms

I have exactly the same problem on my W203. The voltage cure seems good as the car has been stood for a while
I replaced the indicator and the steering wheel squib or clock thingy and have these faults displayed as well
Will come back if it works
