Mercedes CL500
Hi all, I have recently bought an April 2000, CL500 (W215) and need some help with the following issues, please:-
'SRS' Warning light issue
1) With the engine up and running, the SRS dash light remains permanently, 'ON'.
2) Also, with a person sitting in the passenger seat, the seat-belt when plugged-in, tensions/acts normally whilst the ignition is OFF/Engine not running ...... On 'start-up', the seat-belt tension releases, remains so and the belt can be pulled out further very easily.
Driver's window automatic wind-up issue
1) On initial unlocking, opening of the driver's door, both driver's-side windows open slightly. On entry and closure of the door, the windows remain slightly down. If the door is opened again immediately and closed again, the windows go up OK. Another way to close fully on entry is to then turn the ignition 'ON' and use the door window button to close it up.
The car is due an MOT at the end of May 2013, so I'd much appreciate your help and contributions, please ...... Thanks in anticipation, Bob

You need to have the fault codes read before you do anything.

Many thanks for your prompt response BlackC55 ... I'll investigate getting it checked-out by computer. Best regards, Bob

Fault Codes identified

Hi again all,
As advised, I have had my CL500 'fault located' and identified the Fault Codes as follows:-
'SRS' issue
Fault Code: B1000 Restraint System .. ECU - N2/7 Faulty ... Would this be something to do with the passenger seat-belt issue?

There was nothing identified for the electric window 'wind-up issue, but there was another fault identified in the 'History' log:-

C1504 E/S/P (The Electronic Stability Program?)

Is anyone able to pinpoint the faulty components? ... and where they are located? ... and the rough cost of a) purchasing them ... and b) the labour costs to replace them ... and does the main computer in the car have to be re-set after the components have been replaced?

Help! ... please!

Thank you Balge

Hi Balge, That is fantastic ... really helpful ... thank you soooo much! ... I've gone from despair to hope in just one day!
All I need now is the location of the faulty components ... and the Part Nos.? ... Can anyone help with this request please? ...

So you have the ESP light on?

If you don't ignore the ESP code.

The SRS control unit seems to be faulty. It is located in front of the gear lever behind the wood trim.

Make sure the feeds and earths are good before replacing one. If it does need replacing it will need to be coded to the car by a Star diag machine.

Thanks again!

Hi again BlackC55, Many thanks for following-up on my issues ... much appreciated!

The 'ESP' light is NOT 'ON' ... I am going to visit a visit a Mercedes Specialist in Lee High Road, Lewisham, sometime this week and get a quote to replace the 'SRS' Control Unit ... they will have a STAR diag. machine, I assume.

I will also get them to quote for replacing the N49 and/or the N64 sensors.

Great pity I'm not nearer to your Company ... I'd happily get you to do the above.

Thanks again for all your help and advice ... I'll post on here how I get on.

Very best regards, Bob

This is a perfect example of how good owners forums can be, I'd have just removed the bulb ! ;)

Oh ... How blonde would THAT be!

Hi WTBMrBlonde,

Mmmmmmmh, glad you don't have my problem then! ... in an accident, your passenger would be re-arranging your dashboard and windscreen! ... and their features!... Now that would be blonde!!! ;) .... Ha Ha! :D.... Thanks for your contact! Best regards, Bob

You may find the replacement cost of the SRS module a lot more that you expect. My understanding is that they can be repaired.

SRS moduals can be repaired for a fraction of the cost of a new one, just search Mercedes SRS on Ebay.
One thing I found out is, no matter why your SRS light is on there are only two ways to reset it, go to a dealer with a Star system (or simular) or buy a reset tool like the Foxwell at 190 quide.
Fixing the problem on my A170 CDI was fairly straight foward, shorten the clock spring 1", but the reset is a minimum of 25 pounds (30€) it seems, (not bad for 45 seconds work)

Well, I've been absolutely amazed by the quality of the INTERNATIONAL responses I've received from all you guys! ... With humour as well! ... Thank you all sooooo much!
It's been my first experience of a 'Forum' ... I only hope in future I'll be helping others with issues ... It's much cheaper!!
The latest news is that I've dropped-in on a Mercedes Specialist in Lee, London ... I was not in the CL, but I went in and discussed the whole situation with them. They were really helpful and 'booked' it in for next week.
I'll certainly report back to you all here with the outcome.
Many thanks to you all again ....
Very best regards,
Bob
