ok... got a light on my instrumemnt panel as i was coming home... srs... any ideas?

if its simple... dont flame me lol....

SRS = Supplementary Restraint System = airbag.

Quite often it's a loose connector that causes the light to come on.Locate the connectors and check they're tight. They're usually under the seats but someone with more knowledge will confirm.

Shouldn;t do - should do the opposite - if the light's on it won't go off.

Hi, when I had this on my MY2005 C Class, it was found (eventually) to be the spiral connector in the steering wheel / column. Sorted under warranty, but took a few goes to establish what it was.

btw - Pammy is correct - when the light comes on, the entire airbag system is disabled - (suppose its better than going off when you wind your window down)

The clock spring and the passenger seat weight sensor/wiring are good guesses.

Just a note of caution - make sure you rectify this problem before the next MOT. In theory, you car willfail the test because of this. Reason is that the safety system of your car is impaired.

Also - a possible place to check - front seat harnesses. The SRS system also includes the seatbelt tensioning pyros. If the wiring to them is loose/disconnected, the SRS warning will activate, disabling the system. I had this problem on an old Peugeot.

Good luck!

No it won't. SRS isn't covered under the MOT check.

I had the same with mine and under the passenger seat you will see a loom with a connector mine was a dodgy one I just played about with it and all has been ok since and that was 4 months ago.

so .... if i just remove the srs bulb in the instrument panel it'll be fine?

until i get it fixed ofcoarse

Not if you need it..

I've just spotted the OP's car is >10 years old. There is an urban myth that once a bag is >10years old it needs replaced and there is likelihood it won't deploy in an accident where it should. I know my old mans 993 is due new bags soon as I read in its idiot guide that airbags need replaced every 10 years ago.

the interval was extended i believe.

the interval was extended i believe.

I believe the extension applies for new cars only. Those that had the time limit should still need the airbag change, but only once.

well, in 20+ years of driving, i've never had a shunt or rear ender ...
so... fingers crossed the airbag wont be needed...

BUT

on the other hand..... there are a lot of.. lets just say europeans driving around with cornflake packet cut out driving licences... so it may happen

[ in no way did i just make a racialist remark against europeans.... just for the record ]

I've been driving for 15 years , and I'd never had a shunt or a rear ender until Friday the 19th Sept ... when the car was written off .....

Get the fault fixed mate, don't just take the bulb out , because ( guarantee this ) it'll get forgotten about until the point you need it , and then you'll have a really bad day.

ye... i know about bad days...

how much will a new air bag cost tho?

Lots ...

Few hundred quid at least.

If we all drove Tata's new Nano, airbags may only cost $10 if this article is to believed.
